Pros and Cons of Paying for an iCloud+ Subscription

iCloud+ is a service offered by Apple that allows users to store their files, photos, and other data in the cloud. This subscription service comes with a range of features and capabilities that are not available to regular iCloud users. However, like all subscription services, iCloud+ has its own pros and cons that you should weigh before subscribing.

Pros

  1. More storage: The biggest advantage of iCloud+ is that it provides more storage space than the standard iCloud plans. You can choose the storage plan according to your needs, with options ranging from 50 GB to 2 TB.
  2. Additional Privacy: iCloud+ also comes with a feature called Private Relay that adds an extra layer of security to your web browsing activity by encrypting your internet traffic. This ensures that your online activity is private and secure, while also protecting your identity.
  3. Security: iCloud+ users also get access to additional security features for their credentials such as an unlimited number of email aliases that can be used to anonymize their online identity, as well as a password manager with built-in encryption.
  4. Convenience: One of the benefits of subscribing to iCloud+ is the convenience of seamlessly syncing your data across all your Apple devices without having to worry about manually backing up and restoring your data.

Cons

  1. Cost: While iCloud+ offers more features and capabilities than regular iCloud, it is also more expensive. If you are only looking for basic storage features, the standard iCloud plan may be sufficient for your needs.
  2. Limited Availability: iCloud+ is only available on Apple devices, which means that users who use Windows or Android devices will not be able to use this service.
  3. Dependency on Apple Devices: iCloud+ is closely tied to Apple devices, which means that users will need to have an Apple device to gain access to it.
  4. Limited Control: Another downside of iCloud+ is that the level of control you have over your data may not be as granular as you might like. Essentially, the service may make decisions for you that you’d rather be able to make for yourself.
