Popular curries not the healthiest

When it comes to indulging in the delectable variety of curries around the world, it’s easy to be swept away by the rich flavors and aromatic spices. However, not all curries are created equal, especially concerning health. It’s worth exploring which curries might be best for your health and which could derail your diet.

Best Curries for Your Health:

1.Chana Masala: This delightful North Indian curry made with chickpeas is not only heartwarming but also packed with proteins and dietary fibers. The tomato-based sauce provides a good dose of lycopene, while the use of minimal oil keeps the calorie count in check.

2.Dal: A staple across Indian households, this lentil curry is a powerhouse of nutrients. Lentils are high in proteins, fibers, and essential minerals like iron and potassium. Since dals are typically prepared with minimal oil and include turmeric and cumin, they also boast anti-inflammatory properties.

3.Thai Green Curry: Made with green chilies, lemongrass, garlic, and coconut milk, Thai green curry can be a healthy choice if made with an abundance of vegetables and lean protein like chicken or tofu. The coconut milk should be used sparingly though since it’s high in saturated fat.

Worst Curries for Your Health:

1.Tikka Masala: This popular dish often consists of heavy cream and butter, causing the calorie count to skyrocket. Additionally, restaurant versions tend to contain excessive salt to enhance flavor – making it quite unhealthy despite its delicious taste.

2.Beef Rendang: While incredibly flavorful due to the mix of lemongrass, galangal, garlic, ginger, and turmeric simmered for hours, this Indonesian curry becomes less heart-friendly because of the saturated fat content in both beef and coconut cream.

3.Butter Chicken: Similar to Tikka Masala in its rich gravy composed of butter, cream (or sometimes condensed milk), Butter Chicken is another calorie-laden delight. It might seduce your taste buds but can also contribute significantly to increased cholesterol levels.

In summary, while some curries incorporate healthful ingredients and cooking methods suitable for a balanced diet, others are laden with fats and empty calories that can impact your health negatively if consumed regularly. Making mindful choices when enjoying these dishes can help maintain both your health and your enjoyment of international cuisine.
