Miss the Old Office Interface? Heres How to Get It Back

Remember the days of the classic Office interface? The familiar menus, toolbars, and Ribbon that felt like home? While the new Office versions have introduced a modern look, some users find themselves longing for the simplicity and familiarity of the older interface. Thankfully, getting that classic feel back isn’t impossible.

For Windows users:

Use Classic Theme: This option, available in most Office versions, switches the interface to a more traditional look with the familiar blue accents. You can find this under “File” > “Account” > “Office Theme.”
Customize the Ribbon: Office allows you to personalize the Ribbon by adding or removing tabs and commands. This lets you keep the modern look while tailoring it to your preferences.
Use Add-Ins: Various third-party add-ins can bring back the old interface, such as Classic Menu for Office. These add-ins can offer a complete overhaul, recreating the traditional menus and toolbars.

For Mac users:

Utilize the Ribbon Customization: Similar to Windows, you can tailor the Ribbon on Mac to your liking, removing unnecessary tabs and adding frequently used commands. This allows you to personalize the interface without resorting to drastic changes.
Consider Alternative Suites: If you’re not willing to compromise on the classic look, alternative office suites like LibreOffice or OpenOffice offer a more traditional interface and are compatible with Microsoft Office documents.

Remember, a familiar interface can be a comfort, but don’t be afraid to explore the newer features of Office. The latest versions offer numerous improvements and time-saving tools, making it worthwhile to embrace the modern look.

Whether you choose to stick with the classic feel or embrace the new, the choice is yours. Happy writing!

Since technology is not going anywhere and does more good than harm, adapting is the best course of action. That is where The Tech Edvocate comes in. We plan to cover the PreK-12 and Higher Education EdTech sectors and provide our readers with the latest news and opinion on the subject.
