Malta, with its glistening turquoise waters and vivacious landscapes, remains the Mediterranean’s best-kept secret. This enchanting archipelago offers a unique blend of rich historical heritage and stunning natural beauty, making it an ideal destination for travelers looking for an off-the-beaten-path experience. Embark on a no-skip itinerary to capture the essence of Malta’s seductive charm.

Day 1: Valletta – Malta’s Capital of Culture

Begin your journey in Valletta, the country’s capital and a World Heritage site. Stroll through the meandering streets to behold baroque architecture, including St. John’s Co-Cathedral, which houses Caravaggio’s masterpiece “The Beheading of Saint John the Baptist.” Finish your day with a harbor cruise at sunset to see the city walls glow in the dying light.

Day 2: Mdina – The Silent City

Travel to Mdina, Malta’s old capital. Walk through the ‘Silent City,’ admiring its timeless beauty and noble palaces. Visit St. Paul’s Cathedral before heading to the Bastion Square for panoramic views of the island. For fans of “Game of Thrones,” recognize familiar filming locations scattered throughout the city.

Day 3: The Three Cities – Vittoriosa, Senglea, and Cospicua

Explore The Three Cities across Grand Harbour from Valletta. Delve into their maritime histories at the Maritime Museum in Vittoriosa and take an audio tour of Fort St. Angelo for epic views and tales of knights and sieges.

Day 4: Gozo – A Rustic Escape

Take a ferry ride to Gozo, Malta’s sister island known for its quieter, rural charm. Visit the Citadel in Victoria and ramble around Azure Window ruins before dipping into the Blue Hole – an iconic diving spot.

Day 5: Comino – The Blue Lagoon

Dedicate this day to relaxation at Comino’s Blue Lagoon; snorkel in its crystal-clear waters or sunbathe on its rocky shores. Less adventurous souls can enjoy a book under the shade of a cabana before heading back in time for a seaside dinner on Malta.

Day 6: Marsaxlokk – A Traditional Fishing Village

Venture into Marsaxlokk, a traditional fishing village famous for its Sunday market and colorful luzzus (fishing boats). Feast on fresh seafood at a waterfront restaurant while enjoying tranquil views.

Day 7: Prehistoric Temples and Farewell Dinner

Conclude your trip with a visit to some of Europe’s oldest free-standing structures – Hagar Qim and Mnajdra temples dating back over 5000 years. In the evening, indulge in rabbit stew or lampuki pie as you reminisce over your Maltese escapade during a farewell dinner in Valletta.

This suggested itinerary will allow you to experience Malta’s unique heritage sites intertwined with stunning vistas that truly make this place one not to skip on your travel bucket list!
