Over the years, Linux has gained popularity among users who are looking for a secure and customizable operating system for their devices. One of the devices that can now run on Linux is tablets. In this article, we will explore Linux tablets and some exciting projects you can try today.

Linux Tablets

Linux tablets are devices that run on a Linux-based operating system. These tablets are becoming increasingly popular among users who prefer an open-source operating system. Linux offers great customization options, making it easier for users to change the interface, add features, and tweak the system to their preferences.

There are several Linux-based operating systems designed specifically for tablets, such as Ubuntu Touch, KDE Plasma Mobile, and Mobian. These operating systems offer a user-friendly interface, support for touchscreen devices, and access to a plethora of open-source applications.

Projects to Try Today

Now that we have an understanding of Linux tablets, let’s explore some exciting projects you can try today.

  1. Create a Mobile Media Center

With a Linux tablet, you can create a mobile media center that can stream videos, music, and other media files from your home server. Use an operating system like OSMC or LibreELEC, and install Kodi, a free and open-source media player. You can then connect your tablet to your TV and enjoy your media collection.

  1. DIY eBook Reader

Transform your Linux tablet into a dedicated eBook reader using the FBReader application. You can download and store a vast collection of eBooks on your tablet and read them anytime, anywhere. You can even customize the font size, font type, and background color to suit your preference.

  1. Home Automation Control Hub

Linux tablets can also be used as a home automation control hub. Install an operating system like openHAB and connect your tablet to your smart home devices. You can then control your lighting, air conditioning, security system, and other home appliances from your tablet.

  1. Retro Gaming Machine

Use your Linux tablet to relive your childhood memories with retro gaming. Install an emulator like RetroArch and download ROMs for your favorite retro games. You can then connect a Bluetooth controller to your tablet and enjoy playing classic games from different consoles.
