Is the Taskbar Not Auto-Hiding on Windows? Try These Fixes

If you’re a Windows user, you may have noticed a pesky issue where the taskbar at the bottom of the screen doesn’t auto-hide when it’s supposed to. This can be frustrating, as it takes up valuable real estate on your screen and can detract from your user experience. Fortunately, there are several fixes you can try to resolve the issue.

1. Restart your computer

First and foremost, try restarting your computer to see if that solves the problem. Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve technical glitches and refresh the system, allowing the taskbar to auto-hide properly.

2. Check your taskbar settings

If restarting your computer doesn’t do the trick, you’ll want to check your taskbar settings. To do this, right-click on the taskbar and select “Taskbar settings.” From here, make sure that the “Automatically hide the taskbar in desktop mode” and “Automatically hide the taskbar in tablet mode” options are turned on.

Additionally, check the “Lock the taskbar” option to ensure that it’s not locked. If it is, click on it to unlock it, which may allow it to auto-hide properly.

3. Run a system file checker scan

It’s possible that some of the system files on your computer have become corrupted, which could be causing the taskbar auto-hide issue. To check for and repair any corrupted files, run a system file checker scan.

To do this, open the Command Prompt as an administrator and type in “sfc /scannow” and hit enter. This will scan your system files and repair any that are corrupt.

4. Check for malware

If none of the previous fixes work, it’s possible that your computer has been infected with malware or a virus. These malicious programs can interfere with the taskbar’s function, among other things.

Run a complete virus scan using your computer’s antivirus software to check for any malware or viruses. If your computer is infected, the antivirus software should be able to remove the malicious program and resolve the taskbar auto-hide issue.
