iPhone 8 vs. iPhone 8 Plus: The main differences between Apple’s 2017 flagships

When Apple launched the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus in September 2017, many consumers were left wondering which device was the right choice for them. Both devices have their own unique features and specifications, but what sets them apart from one another? In this article, we will explore the main differences between the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus to help you decide which model is the best fit for you.

1. Display size and resolution

One of the most apparent differences between the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus is their screen size. The iPhone 8 sports a smaller 4.7-inch display, while the iPhone 8 Plus boasts a larger 5.5-inch screen. As a result, there’s also a difference in resolution: the iPhone 8 offers a resolution of 1334 x 750 pixels, while the iPhone 8 Plus presents a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. If you prefer larger displays with higher resolution for consuming media or playing games, then the iPhone 8 Plus may be more suitable for you.

2. Design and weight

The design of both phones is similar, featuring glass backs and aluminum frames in Space Gray, Silver, and Gold finishes. However, due to their difference in size, there’s a variation in their weight as well. The iPhone 8 weighs around 148 grams, while the larger iPhone 8 Plus tips the scales at approximately188 grams.

3. Camera capabilities

While both models feature a12-megapixel rear camera with optical image stabilization (OIS), the iPhone 8 Plus has an added bonus – a secondary telephoto lens that enables2x optical zoom and Portrait mode with advanced bokeh effects. This extra lens makes it an ideal choice for photography enthusiasts who want to capture professional-quality images with their smartphones.

4. Battery life and charging

When it comes to battery life, the iPhone 8 Plus outshines its smaller counterpart. According to Apple, the iPhone 8’s battery lasts up to14 hours of talk time, while the iPhone 8 Plus provides up to21 hours. Both devices support fast charging and wireless charging capabilities, thanks to their glass backs.

5. Price and storage options

As expected, the larger iPhone 8 Plus is more expensive than the iPhone 8. The prices vary based on their storage capacity options, which are64 GB and256 GB for both models.

In conclusion, choosing between the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus ultimately boils down to your preferences in screen size, camera capabilities, and battery life. If you value a compact design and lower price point, opting for the iPhone 8 may be a smarter choice. However, if you prioritize better photography features, a larger display for consuming content, and longer-lasting battery life, the iPhone 8 Plus will prove to be a more satisfying investment.
