iPhone 14 Pro Cameras vs. 13 Pro: All the Ways They’re Different

The iPhone has long been a benchmark for innovation and quality in the smartphone industry. With the recent release of the iPhone 14 Pro, many are wondering how it stacks up against its predecessor, the iPhone 13 Pro, regarding camera quality and features. In this article, we will delve into the key differences between these two devices’ cameras, highlighting the improvements Apple has brought to its flagship offering.

Camera Hardware:

Starting with the hardware, both iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro models feature a triple-camera system on their backs. However, there are some notable differences in sensor sizes and resolutions between the two generations.

The primary camera on iPhone 14 Pro now sports a larger sensor with improved resolution compared to that of its predecessor. This enables better low-light performance and increased dynamic range in photos. The telephoto lens on the iPhone 14 Pro also sees an upgrade in its optical zoom capabilities, improving from 3x up to a staggering x5 making more distant shots clearer than ever before.

Wide Angle Lens:

As for the ultra-wide camera, iPhone 14 Pro comes with an upgraded lens featuring auto-focus functionality not present in its predecessor model. This allows for more precise focusing when capturing expansive landscapes or large groups of people in tight spaces. Autofocus also paves the way for macro photography on the ultra-wide lens – a feature previously only available on the primary camera of iPhone 13 Pro.

ProRaw and Night Mode:

Both smartphones support Apple’s ProRAW format, which retains more image data and dynamic range than traditional image formats, giving you greater flexibility while editing your photos. The main difference here is that iPhone 14 Pro boasts enhancements to Night Mode which lead to faster capture times and sharper images in low light conditions.

Cinematic Video:

One of the unique features introduced in recent models is Cinematic mode for video recording. While both versions have access to Cinematic mode, the iPhone 14 Pro boasts a more refined implementation. Faster processing in the new A16 chip allows for faster and more accurate tracking of subjects in your videos, leading to smoother focus transitions and greatly reducing the chances of missed or incorrect focus.

Front Cameras:

Lastly, let’s compare the selfie (front) cameras. Both iPhone 13 Pro and 14 Pro come equipped with a 12MP TrueDepth camera system that supports Face ID. The main innovation brought by the iPhone 14 Pro lies in its remarkable ability to capture selfies in Portrait Night mode, giving you stunning low-light selfies with just as much depth and vibrance as your daytime shots.
