Netflix is known as the world’s leading streaming service, providing its users with a vast selection of movies, TV shows, documentaries, and many other forms of content to enjoy from the comfort of their own homes.

But did you know that Netflix has been around for over two decades? And that’s just the beginning of the interesting facts that you probably never knew about this global giant.

Let’s dive into the fascinating world of Netflix and uncover some of the most interesting facts that you may never have heard before.

1. Netflix’s Original Name was Kibble

Yes, you read that right. Netflix’s original name was Kibble before they changed it to Netflix, which came from the words ‘internet’ and ‘flicks.’ Pretty catchy, right?

2. You Can Watch Netflix Virtually Anywhere

Netflix is available in almost every country worldwide, with the exception of China, Crimea, Syria, and North Korea. However, even if you aren’t in a country where it’s officially launched, there are ways you can still access it via VPNs.

3. Netflix’s Secret Categories

Netflix has over 76,000 categories, including “deep sea horror movies,” “cerebral French-Language movies,” and even “critically acclaimed quirky movies.” But they’re not easy to find. To access them, you can either type in the URL of the category you want to watch or download the codes to your browser.

4. There’s a Long Waitlist for Netflix Jobs

With a generous maternity and paternity leave policy, free food, and Netflix subscriptions for employees, it’s no surprise that there’s a long list of job applicants for Netflix. In fact, it’s estimated that for every available position, there are over 1,000 applications!

5. Netflix Saves You Time

According to a recent Nielsen study, people who watch Netflix end up saving over six days of their lives each year. It’s because Netflix eliminates the need for commercials and speeds up the overall viewing experience.

6. Competing Platforms Have Tipped Their Hats

When Netflix started to gain traction, Blockbuster offered to purchase it for $50 million. Netflix refused, and the rest is history. Traditional media companies have struggled to compete with the streaming giant as evidenced by Disney’s own platforms.

7. Netflix Knows When You’re Binge-Watching

Netflix is aware of everything you watch, how long it takes for you to watch it, and if you’re binge-watching. The company tracks data on which shows you pause or rewind, and it uses this data to determine which programmes to recommend.

In conclusion, Netflix has come a long way since its inception, and is currently the go-to platform for millions of people worldwide. These interesting facts give insight into the inner workings of Netflix, which has become a behemoth in the entertainment industry. One thing’s for sure: with its innovative approach and endless supply of content, Netflix shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon.
