I Tried 5 Instant Mashed Potatoes & These Were The Best!

Instant mashed potatoes are a pantry staple for many — a quick, convenient, and comforting side dish that’s easy to whip up in a pinch. But with so many brands and variations on the market, choosing the best one can be daunting. To save you from the trial and error, I took on the tasty task myself. I tried five popular instant mashed potato brands to see which one delivers on taste, texture, and ease of preparation. Here are my rankings from good to best:

1. Store Brand Basic Instant Mashed Potatoes

Coming in fifth place were the store brand basic instant mashed potatoes. While these were certainly the most budget-friendly option, they fell short in flavor and had a somewhat grainy texture. However, they do make for a serviceable quick side dish when you’re in a bind.

2. Mashed Gold Specialty Mix

In fourth place is Mashed Gold Specialty Mix, which promises a more “gourmet” experience. These instant potatoes were creamier than the store brand but still lacked that robust potato flavor I was looking for. They mixed well and had a decently smooth consistency but were still missing something special.

3. Buttery Homestyle Selects

In third place is Buttery Homestyle Selects. These instant mashed potatoes hit all the right notes when it came to texture – fluffy and creamy without being too dense or slick. The butter flavor was noticeable and pleasant without overwhelming the natural potato taste.

4. Creamy Russet Gourmet Blend

The runner-up is Creamy Russet Gourmet Blend. These instant mashed potatoes were impressive — they had a rich flavor that tasted almost homemade. They were also incredibly easy to prepare, requiring minimal additional ingredients to achieve a creamy consistency.

5. Ultimate Fluff & Flavor Instant Mashed Potatoes

And the clear winner of this taste test? Ultimate Fluff & Flavor Instant Mashed Potatoes take first place with flying colors! These potatoes had everything I was looking for: an irresistible creamy texture, true potato flavor with just the right balance of butteriness, and simple preparation that resulted in a perfect side dish every time.

In conclusion, while any of these options could serve as a quick fix for mashed potato cravings, some are simply better than others when it comes to delivering that homemade taste we all love. Ultimate Fluff & Flavor stood out as the best instant mashed potatoes I tried — they’re sure to impress even the most discerning palates at your dinner table!
