As the tax season approaches, choosing the best tax preparation service becomes a priority for many taxpayers. In this article, we review H&R Block’s offerings for 2023 and analyze its affordability and availability compared to its main competitor, TurboTax.

More Affordable Than TurboTax

H&R Block has long been known for its competitive pricing structure, providing various pricing tiers catering to different tax complexity levels. For 2023, H&R Block continues to offer affordable options, often priced lower than equivalent TurboTax products.

The free version of H&R Block can handle basic tax situations like W-2 income, unemployment income, child tax credits, and standard deductions. While TurboTax also offers a free version with similar features, H&R Block stands out with its free tier offering access to more forms and schedules than its competitors.

When it comes to paid options, H&R Block’s Deluxe edition starts at a lower price point than TurboTax’s equivalent product. H&R Block Deluxe is better suited for homeowners with mortgage interest and real estate tax deductions. It also accommodates deductible charitable donations and Health Savings Account (HSA) contributions.

For self-employed individuals or small business owners, the Premium package grants additional support for freelancers, contractors, investments, and rental income. This package is also more affordable than TurboTax’s comparable tier.

In-Person Tax Help Available

One of the most significant advantages of choosing H&R Block over other software-based solutions like TurboTax is its network of physical branch locations across the country. This offers taxpayers the option to consult in-person with a professional tax preparer if they require additional assistance.

H&R Block provides virtual assistance as well. Through their Tax Pro Go service, customers can have their taxes prepared by an expert remotely without visiting a local office. This service allows you to upload documents electronically and have a professional tax preparer analyze your tax situation and complete your return.

Moreover, H&R Block offers a Tax Pro Review feature at an additional cost for those who prefer completing their own taxes but would like a professional to review their work before filing. This ensures maximum accuracy without the need to visit a physical office.

Conclusion

In summary, H&R Block has proven to be a more affordable solution compared to TurboTax for taxpayers of varying levels, from basic filers to self-employed individuals. Additionally, its availability of in-person assistance and virtual support sets it apart from other tax preparation services. Overall, the 2023 H&R Block offerings come as an attractive choice for those looking to navigate the tax season with ease and confidence.
