When the summer season comes to an end, it’s time to prepare your Jet Ski for winter storage. Proper winterization is essential to keep your watercraft in optimal condition and ensure its longevity. Follow these 14 steps to winterize your Jet Ski effectively

1. Check the owner’s manual: Begin by consulting your owner’s manual for any specific instructions or recommendations related to your particular Jet Ski model.

2. Drain water from the engine: Run your jet ski briefly on land (no more than 30 seconds) with the hose disconnected, allowing water to drain from the engine.

3. Flush the cooling system: Attach a garden hose to the flush port and run water through the system for a few minutes. This helps clean out any debris and minimizes salt buildup in the engine’s cooling passages.

4. Fuel stabilizer: Add a fuel stabilizer to your gas tank according to the product instructions. This prevents fuel from breaking down or separating during storage, which can damage your engine.

5. Oil change and filter replacement: Plan on changing your Jet Ski’s oil and filter before storing it for winter. Dirty oil can develop into sludge that harms the engine over time.

6. Fogging oil: Spray fogging oil into each of your Jet Ski’s carburetors and spark plug holes, which will protect internal components from corrosion and prevent condensation buildup.

7. Lubricate cables and connections: Applying a marine-grade lubricant protects cables, clamps, and connectors from rusting during storage.

8. Grease fittings: Locate all accessible grease fittings on your jet ski and generously apply appropriate grease, which will shield them from corrosion over winter months.

9. Remove batteries: Take out the battery from your Jet Ski and store it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.

10. Clean hull and exterior components: Fully clean the Jet Ski’s exterior, removing dirt, grime, algae, and saltwater. This step helps prevent corrosion and staining.

11. Inspection and repair: Check your Jet Ski for any damages or wear, such as cracks in the hull or worn bearings, and repair them before storage.

12. Cover and store: Secure a high-quality cover specifically designed for a Jet Ski over your watercraft to protect it from dust, moisture, and sunlight.

13. Indoor storage option: Ideally, try to store your Jet Ski indoors if possible. This will shield it from extreme weather conditions during the winter months.

14. Monthly check-ups: Conduct regular monthly checks on your stored Jet Ski during the winter months. This ensures your watercraft is well-protected throughout its time in storage and helps you spot any potential issues early on.

By following these 14 steps thoroughly, you can adequately protect your jet ski during the winter months, help maintain its optimal condition and have it ready to go when the warm weather returns. Happy winterizing!
