How to View and Manage Compromised Passwords on Your iPhone
In today’s digital world, our online presence has become a part and parcel of our daily lives. It’s not just about social media but also our online banking, shopping, communication, and productivity apps that require us to create a username and password for security purposes. However, creating a strong password can be quite challenging, and we often end up using the same password for multiple accounts. This practice is not secure, and it puts our personal and financial information at risk.
To deal with this issue, tech giants like Apple have introduced features to manage and view compromised passwords on their devices like the iPhone. Here’s a guide on how to use this feature to keep your accounts secure.
Step 1: Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
Step 2: Scroll down and tap on ‘Passwords.’
Step 3: Tap on ‘Security Recommendations.’
Step 4: Here, you will find a list of all the passwords that have been compromised or reused on different accounts. Apple’s built-in password manager identifies these weak passwords and notifies the user to change them for increased security.
Step 5: Tap on each account that has a weak or compromised password, and it will show you the password if it is saved on your device. You can choose to change the password by tapping on the ‘Change Password on Website’ option.
Step 6: If you don’t have the password for that particular account saved on your iPhone, you can use the ‘Change Password on Website’ option to reset the password on the website itself.
In addition to viewing compromised passwords, iPhone users can also make use of the built-in password manager to generate strong, unique passwords for different accounts. This tool is found in the ‘Passwords’ section of the Settings app.
Step 1: Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
Step 2: Scroll down and tap on ‘Passwords.’
Step 3: Tap on ‘Autofill Passwords.’
Step 4: Here, you’ll find the ‘Password Manager’ option that generates passwords whenever you need them.
Step 5: Whenever you create a new account, tap on the password field, and a pop-up will appear asking if you want to use the password manager to create a strong password. This tool generates strong, unique passwords and can save them automatically for you.
