Facebook has been the flagship social media platform for over a decade and today it boasts approximately 2.7 billion monthly active users. With the vast amount of data being collected and shared by its users, protecting one’s privacy has become all the more important. Fortunately, Facebook has introduced a new feature called “Off-Facebook Activity” tool that allows users to control and manage the data shared outside of Facebook.

This Guide will explain how you can use the Off-Facebook Activity Tool to protect your privacy on Facebook.

What is Off-Facebook Activity Tool?

The Off-Facebook Activity tool was introduced by Facebook in 2019 as an effort to give its users greater control over their privacy settings by allowing them to control the data shared by them outside of the platform.

The tool is available on both the Facebook app and the desktop version and can be accessed through the “Settings” menu, available on the dropdown menu on the top-right corner of the page. Users can access the “Off-Facebook Activity” panel to see a list of the apps and websites that they have interacted with, and the data that has been shared with Facebook.

How to use the Off-Facebook Activity Tool?

Here is a step-by-step guide on how to use the Off-Facebook Activity Tool to protect your privacy.

Step 1: Go to the Facebook Settings Menu

Log in to your Facebook account and click on the dropdown menu located on the top-right corner of the page. Click on “Settings”.

Step 2: Click on the “Off-Facebook Activity” Tab

On the Settings page, scroll down the menu and click on “Off-Facebook Activity”.

Step 3: Review Your Activity

Here you will find a list of all the Third-party apps and websites where your activity was tracked. You can view details on what activity was shared with Facebook. You can click on any app or website and view your activity history.

Step 4: Disconnect Your Off-Facebook Activity

If you want to stop sharing activity data with Facebook, click on the “Clear History” button. This will disconnect your off-Facebook activity from your account.

Step 5: Turn Off Future Activity

If you wish to prevent Facebook from collecting your off-Facebook activity altogether, you can select the “Manage Future Activity” option from the “Off-Facebook Activity” page and turn off the option. This will stop further data sharing with Facebook.

Why Should You Use the Off-Facebook Activity Tool?

Facebook collects a vast amount of data from its users, not just within Facebook but also outside of the platform. The Off-Facebook Activity tool allows you to view and manage the data that is shared with Facebook. This tool is particularly useful for users who are concerned about their online privacy and want to limit Facebook’s access to their data.

By using the Off-Facebook Activity Tool, you can

1. Control your data-sharing with Facebook

2. Better manage your online privacy

3. Understand how third-party apps use your data

In conclusion, the Off-Facebook Activity Tool is a useful feature that allows Facebook users to take control of their online privacy by seeing what third-party apps and websites are sharing with Facebook. By managing your off-Facebook activity, you can reduce the amount of data that is shared with Facebook, thereby protecting your privacy.
