How to Use Labels for Specific Contacts in Google Contacts App
Organizing your contacts can make communication more efficient, especially when you have a large number of contacts. Labels in Google Contacts act like folders where you can group specific contacts based on your preference, such as family, friends, coworkers, etc. Using labels can help streamline communication and ensure that you send information to the correct group of people. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to use labels for specific contacts in the Google Contacts app:
- Open the Google Contacts app on your smartphone or navigate to Google Contacts on your computer via contacts.google.com.
- Sign in with your Google account if prompted.
- Browse through your contact list or use the search bar at the top to find a specific contact you want to label.
- Once you have found the contact, click on their name to view their details.
- Look for the label icon; it usually appears as a tag shape. On mobile devices, it may be found near the top of the contact details page or within a menu represented by three dots.
- Click on this label icon to access labeling options. If using for the first time, you will have the option to create a new label.
- To create a new label, click on ‘Create label’ (or ‘New label’ in some versions) and enter a name for your label such as ‘Family’, ‘Work’, etc., then press ‘OK’ or ‘Create’.
- Once you’ve created a label, it will appear in the list of available labels. You can tap or click on this newly created label to assign it to your contact.
- To add more contacts to an existing label, simply repeat steps 3 through 8 for each contact you wish to include under that label.
- You can manage your labeled contacts by clicking or tapping on ‘Labels’ from the main menu (sidebar on desktop). Here you’ll see all your created labels and can easily add or remove contacts from them.
- To remove a contact from a label, go into that specific label category, locate the contact you wish to remove, and uncheck them or use the edit option often presented as a pencil icon depending on your device.
- Remember that after labeling contacts, you can also send emails directly to all contacts within a particular label if using Gmail: compose a new email and start typing the name of the label in the ‘To’ field—it should populate with email addresses associated with that label.
By following these steps, you can effectively categorize and manage your contacts using labels within Google Contacts which allows for more targeted communication and simplified management of personal and professional relationships.
