Google Sheets is one of the most popular spreadsheet applications used by individuals and businesses worldwide. It’s an excellent tool for keeping track of information, analyzing data, and collaborating with others. However, if you’re someone who prefers working in a dark environment instead of light, you might find the bright-white background of Google Sheets to be distracting or even harmful to your eyes.

Luckily, Google Sheets now allows users to enable a dark mode feature that helps lessen eye strain and provide a more comfortable computing experience. In this article, we will guide you through the steps of how to use Google Sheets in dark mode, both on your mobile device and desktop.

On Mobile:

Step 1: First, you will need to have the Google Sheets mobile app installed on your device.

Step 2: After installation, open the app and look for the ‘hamburger’ menu icon located on the upper left-hand corner of your mobile screen. It’s a three-line icon that looks like a hamburger.

Step 3: Tap the ‘hamburger’ menu icon and scroll down to select the ‘Settings’ option.

Step 4: From the list of settings options, select the ‘Theme’ tab.

Step 5: Toggle on the ‘Dark Theme’ switch to enable the dark mode feature.

Once you’ve followed these five simple steps, you should now be able to use Google Sheets in dark mode on your mobile device.

On Desktop:

Step 1: Open the Google Sheets application on your desktop computer.

Step 2: Look for the ‘hamburger’ menu icon located on the upper left-hand corner of the screen. It’s a three-line icon that looks like a hamburger.

Step 3: Click on the ‘hamburger’ menu icon and scroll down until you find the ‘Settings’ option.

Step 4: From the list of settings options, select ‘Appearance.’

Step 5: Under the ‘Appearance’ tab, you’ll see two options: ‘Light’ and ‘Dark.’ Click on the ‘Dark’ option to enable the dark mode feature.

Once you’ve followed these five simple steps, you should now be able to use Google Sheets in dark mode on your desktop.

About Us

Since technology is not going anywhere and does more good than harm, adapting is the best course of action. That is where The Tech Edvocate comes in. We plan to cover the PreK-12 and Higher Education EdTech sectors and provide our readers with the latest news and opinion on the subject. From time to time, I will invite other voices to weigh in on important issues in EdTech. We hope to provide a well-rounded, multi-faceted look at the past, present, the future of EdTech in the US and internationally.

We started this journey back in June 2016, and we plan to continue it for many more years to come. I hope that you will join us in this discussion of the past, present and future of EdTech and lend your own insight to the issues that are discussed.
