When it comes to improving the quality of sound on your computer, one of the most important steps you can take is to keep your audio drivers up to date. The audio driver is software that connects your computer’s sound card to the operating system, enabling apps and programs to produce sound. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to update your audio drivers on Windows.

Step 1: Determine the Audio Device

First, you need to determine what type of audio device you have installed in your computer. Go to the Windows search bar and type in “Device Manager”. Open the Device Manager and find the “Sound, video, and game controllers” category. Expand it by clicking on its icon, and you will see a list of all the audio devices installed on your computer.

Step 2: Check the Audio Driver Version

Check the currently installed driver version by right-clicking on the audio device and selecting “Properties”. Navigate to the “Driver” tab and review the information in the driver details section, including the driver version and date.

Step 3: Locate the Latest Audio Driver

Visit the manufacturer’s website and find the support section for your audio device. Locate the latest driver version that matches your system specifications, such as Windows version and device model.

Step 4: Download and Install Updated Audio Driver

Download the latest audio driver version from the manufacturer’s website. Once the download is complete, double-click the downloaded file to launch the installation wizard. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the updated driver. Alternatively, you can right-click on the audio device and select “Update driver software” to install the updated driver automatically.

Step 5: Restart Your Computer

After the installation is complete, restart your computer to ensure that changes made with the new driver are fully implemented. Once your computer reboots, play a music file or video that utilizes your audio device to test whether the driver update resolved any sound issues.
