If you’ve sold or given away your Apple Watch, or just want to disconnect it from your iPhone, unpairing is an easy process. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to unpair your Apple Watch from your phone.

Step 1: Back Up Your Apple Watch Data

Before unpairing your Apple Watch, it is important to backup your data. Your watch will automatically create a backup when it is connected to your iPhone, and this will allow you to restore any data when you pair your watch to your iPhone later. To check if your watch is backed up:

– Open the Watch app on your iPhone.

– Tap on “General.”

– Choose “Apple Watch Backup” option.

Step 2: Turn off Activation Lock

It is important to turn off Activation Lock to ensure that the watch can still be used after it is unpaired from your iPhone. To turn off Activation Lock:

– Open the Watch app on your iPhone.

– Tap on the “My Watch” tab.

– Tap on your Apple Watch at the top of the screen.

– Tap the “i” icon next to your watch’s name.

– Tap on “Unpair Apple Watch.”

– Enter your Apple ID password when prompted.

– Wait for the unpairing process to complete.

Step 3: Erase Your Apple Watch

Now that your watch is unpaired from your iPhone, you can erase all the data on it. This will ensure that all your personal data is wiped off from the device. To erase your Apple Watch:

– On your Apple Watch, go to Settings > General > Reset.

– Tap “Erase All Content and Settings.”

– Enter your passcode.

– Tap “Erase All.”

Step 4: Reinstall watchOS

Once you have erased the watch, you need to reinstall watchOS on it. To do this:

– Place your watch on its charger.

– Hold down the side button until the Apple logo appears.

– Let go of the side button and wait for the device to restart.

Your Apple Watch is now ready to pair with a new iPhone, or to be sold or given away.

About Us

Since technology is not going anywhere and does more good than harm, adapting is the best course of action. That is where The Tech Edvocate comes in. We plan to cover the PreK-12 and Higher Education EdTech sectors and provide our readers with the latest news and opinion on the subject. From time to time, I will invite other voices to weigh in on important issues in EdTech. We hope to provide a well-rounded, multi-faceted look at the past, present, the future of EdTech in the US and internationally.

We started this journey back in June 2016, and we plan to continue it for many more years to come. I hope that you will join us in this discussion of the past, present and future of EdTech and lend your own insight to the issues that are discussed.
