Read receipts are a feature that allows you to know when someone has read a message you sent them. This is a useful feature, especially for business or urgent messages, as it shows you when the recipient opened the message and potentially read its contents. However, some people may not want to share this information or consider it an invasion of privacy. Luckily, turning read receipts on or off on your iPhone or Android is a simple process.

How to Turn Read Receipts On or Off on iPhone

Step 1: Open the Settings app on your iPhone.

Step 2: Scroll down and tap on Messages.

Step 3: Find the section named “Send Read Receipts” and toggle the switch to turn it on or off according to your preference.

If the switch is green, then read receipts are turned on. If it’s gray, then read receipts are turned off.

You can also turn on read receipts for specific individual conversations on your iPhone. All you need to do is follow these steps:

Step 1: Open the Messages app and open the conversation where you want to turn on read receipts.

Step 2: Tap on the person’s name at the top of the screen.

Step 3: Toggle the switch “Send Read Receipts” to turn it on or off as per your choice.

How to Turn Read Receipts On or Off on Android

Step 1: Open the Messages app on your Android device.

Step 2: Click on the three-dot menu in the top right corner of the app and select Settings.

Step 3: Tap on Advanced.

Step 4: Find the “Read Receipts” option and toggle the switch to turn it on or off.

If the switch is blue, it indicates that read receipts are turned on, and if it’s gray, read receipts are turned off.

You can also enable/disable read receipts for specific conversations on your Android device. To do so, follow these instructions:

Step 1: Open the Message app and open the conversation for which you want to enable/disable read receipts.

Step 2: Click on the three-dot menu in the top right corner and select People & Options.

Step 3: Toggle the Read Receipts button to turn it on or off.

Conclusion

Turning read receipts on or off on your iPhone or Android device is a simple process. Whether you prefer knowing when someone has read your message or want to avoid sharing this information, the above steps should help you achieve it with ease. Remember that if you turn off read receipts for your device, you also won’t be able to see if someone else has read your messages.
