If you’re someone who often works or types away on their laptop during the evenings or in low-light conditions, you might find it challenging to see the keyboard clearly. Thankfully, many modern laptops come equipped with a keyboard light that helps you type seamlessly in the dark. In this article, we’ll guide you through the steps to turn on the keyboard light for both Windows and Mac operating systems.

How to Turn on Keyboard Light on Windows

Step 1: Locate the “Fn” key on your keyboard. This key is typically located on the bottom-left corner of your keyboard and is labeled with “Fn.”

Step 2: Locate the key with a light bulb icon or “Keyboard Illumination” text on your keyboard. This key may be located on one of the top keys or as a separate key to the left or right of the keyboard.

Step 3: While holding down the “Fn” key, press the light bulb key once or repeatedly until your keyboard light turns on.

Step 4: If your keyboard has multiple brightness settings, continue pressing the light bulb key until you reach your desired brightness level.

How to Turn on Keyboard Light on Mac

Step 1: Click on the Apple icon in the top-left corner of your screen and select “System Preferences” from the drop-down menu.

Step 2: Click on the “Keyboard” icon in the System Preferences window.

Step 3: Check the box next to “Adjust keyboard brightness in low light.”

Step 4: If you have a MacBook Pro with a Touch Bar, you’ll see a “Keyboard Brightness” button on the Touch Bar. Slide this button left or right to adjust the keyboard brightness level to your preference.

Step 5: If you don’t have a MacBook Pro with a Touch Bar, press the “F5” key on your keyboard to decrease keyboard brightness or “F6” to increase it.

Conclusion

Turning on your keyboard light is a simple process that helps you work efficiently in low-light settings without straining your eyes. By following the above steps for your Windows or Mac laptop, you’ll be able to work seamlessly and comfortably, no matter the lighting in your surroundings.
