Throwing a baseball with proper technique is essential for any player who wants to excel at the sport. Improper form can lead to injuries and negatively impact the player’s performance. Follow these 13 steps to improve your throwing technique and become a more effective player on the field.

1. Choose the right glove: Your baseball glove should fit snugly, but not be too tight. A proper fitting glove will make it easier to grip the ball and transfer it from your glove to your throwing hand.

2. Warm up properly: Before practicing or playing, ensure that you stretch your arms, shoulders, and back. A well-stretched body will help reduce the risk of injury when throwing.

3. Grip the baseball: Place your index and middle fingers on top of the ball, spread apart in a “V” shape. The thumb should be underneath, and the other two fingers on the side for stability. The grip should be firm but not overly tight.

4. Establish a balanced stance: Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart and bend slightly at the knees. Square your shoulders towards your target while facing sideways.

5. Turn sideways: When preparing to throw, turn so that your shoulder is aligned with your target. This position allows you to generate more power when throwing.

6. Bring your throwing arm back: As you bring your arm back, rotate the ball inwards so that your palm faces away from you when your arm is fully extended behind you. The elbow should be aligned with or slightly above shoulder level.

7. Raise your glove-side elbow: Lifting the opposite elbow allows you to maintain balance while creating torque necessary for a powerful throw.

8. Step towards your target: Pivot on your back foot and take a step forward with your front foot as you begin to throw the ball.

9. Rotate hips and shoulders: Turn both hips and shoulders towards your target, generating force and providing momentum for the throw.

10. Release the baseball: Straighten your throwing arm as you release the ball, snapping your wrist down and releasing it from your fingers. Aim to have a slight arc in your throw for maximum accuracy and distance.

11. Follow through: After releasing the ball, continue your throwing motion and allow your arm to follow through completely. This helps with both accuracy and reducing stress on your arm.

12. Practice regularly: To perfect your throwing technique, practice consistently. The more you practice, the more natural the motion will become, ultimately improving your overall performance.

13. Learn from experts: Watch videos of professional players or work with a coach to improve your technique. Feedback from experienced individuals can help identify areas needing improvement.

By following these 13 steps, you’ll be well on your way to perfecting your baseball throwing technique. Remember that practice makes perfect, and with consistent effort, you’ll become a more effective player on the field.
