Whether you are a sewing enthusiast or a beginner, learning how to thread your Kenmore sewing machine is essential for success in your sewing projects. Properly threading your sewing machine can help prevent skipped stitches, uneven tension, and other frustrating issues. In this article, we will guide you through the simple process of threading a Kenmore sewing machine step by step.

Step 1: Gather Your Supplies

Before you begin, make sure you have the following items:

– Kenmore sewing machine

– Spool of thread

– Bobbin

– Scissors

– Sewing machine needle (if not already installed)

Step 2: Wind the Bobbin

First, you need to wind the thread onto the bobbin. Place the spool of thread onto the spool pin on top of the sewing machine. Pull the thread through the thread guide and wrap it around the bobbin winder tension disc. Insert the end of the thread through one of the holes in the bobbin and place it on the bobbin winder spindle. Push it against the stopper and begin winding by pressing on your machine’s foot pedal.

Once your bobbin is filled with thread, cut it free from the spool and remove it from the bobbin winder spindle.

Step 3: Inserting The Bobbin

Open or slide off your machine’s bobbin cover. Drop in the bobbin with its thread running counterclockwise. Gently pull about 4 inches of thread out from under the tension spring, then close or slide back on your bobbin cover.

Step 4: Preparing The Upper Threading

Raise your presser foot and turn your handwheel toward you until your needle is in its highest position, which will also raise your take-up lever to its highest position.

Step 5: Threading The Upper Part Of The Machine

Place your thread spool on the spool pin at the top of the sewing machine. Lead the thread through the upper thread guide at the top left of your machine, then bring it straight down along the groove to the right side of the tension disc. Next, lead it up through the take-up lever to form a “U” shape and back down along the groove running parallel to this.

Finally, thread the needle from front to back by passing the thread through the needle eye.

Step 6: Pulling Up The Bobbin Thread

Hold onto the end of your upper thread with your left hand while you turn your handwheel toward you with your right hand. The needle will descend and catch onto your bobbin thread as it goes around. Gently pull on your upper thread, which will bring your bobbin thread up through the hole in your needle plate.

Step 7: Final Adjustments

There should now be both upper and lower threads emerging from the needle hole. Pull both threads under the presser foot and towards the back. Lower your presser foot, and you’re ready to begin sewing with your threaded Kenmore sewing machine!

With these easy steps, threading a Kenmore sewing machine can be accomplished in no time. Now go ahead, get creative and sew something wonderful!
