Dealing with wet electronics can be a nightmare for anyone who has faced it. It can happen to anyone; maybe you dropped your phone in the pool, or spilled water on your laptop. However it happened, the important thing is to take action quickly to try to prevent any serious damage to your device. Here are some steps you can take to thoroughly dry out your wet electronics:

1. Turn off the device.

The first step in dealing with a wet electronic device is to turn it off. If your device is still on, power it down immediately. Do not try to use it until it is completely dry. The electrical current running through the device can short-circuit the wet components, causing even more damage.

2. Remove the battery.

If your device has a removable battery, take it out. Doing this will prevent the electrochemical reaction of the battery from causing any additional damage to the device. If the battery is not removable, just make sure the device is turned off.

3. Wipe the device dry.

Using a clean, dry cloth or paper towel, wipe the device down as much as possible. Remove any visible water droplets from the surface of the device. Do not use tissues, as they tend to leave scratches on the surface of the device.

4. Dry the device with silica gel packets.

Silica gel packets are great for absorbing moisture. You can find these packets in the packaging of many electronic devices, or you can purchase them online. Place several silica gel packets into a zip-lock bag and put your device inside. Seal the bag, then leave the device there for at least 24 hours.

5. Use a dry and dark place.

Apart from silica gel packets, putting your device in a dry, dark place also helps to evaporate the moisture out of your device. Since sunlight can cause the moisture in your device to evaporate at an uneven pace, which can lead to other issues. It is recommended to put the device in a dry environment and avoid exposing it to direct sunlight, heat or cold.

6. Rice Method.

The rice method is also a popular way to dry a wet device. Put your device in an airtight container or plastic bag filled with uncooked rice. The rice will absorb the moisture from your device. Leave the device in the rice for up to 72 hours before turning it back on.

In conclusion, dealing with a wet device can be stressful, but don’t panic. By following these simple tips, you can help to save your device from water damage. Remember to take action as soon as possible, and consistently check for damage as you go. If you’re not comfortable handling the situation yourself, take your device to a professional to get it checked out.
