Tofu is a versatile soy-based protein that can be used in a variety of dishes. It is essential to store tofu properly in order to maintain its freshness, texture, and taste. This article will guide you on how to store tofu with 11 easy steps.

1. Drain the liquid: Remove the tofu from its original packaging and drain out any excess liquid.

2. Pat dry: Use clean paper towels or a kitchen cloth to gently pat the tofu dry. This helps in removing extra moisture that might contribute to spoilage.

3. Choose a storage container: Select an airtight container large enough to hold the tofu without too much pressure on it, which might alter its shape or texture.

4. Place a paper towel at the bottom of the container: Lining your container with paper towels helps absorb any excess moisture, ensuring that your tofu stays fresh for a longer period.

5. Put the tofu inside the container: Place the tofu gently onto the paper towel inside the storage container.

6. Cover with more paper towels: Layer another sheet or two of paper towels on top of the tofu. These will continue to absorb moisture and keep your tofu from drying out.

7. Seal your container: Close your container with an airtight lid or cover to avoid exposure to air and bacteria.

8. Store in the refrigerator: Put your sealed tofu container in the refrigerator at approximately 40°F (4°C) for optimal freshness.

9. Change paper towels frequently: If you’re storing your tofu for more than one day, replace the paper towels once every day or two to keep it fresh and reduce spoilage risk.

10. Consume within a week: It’s best to consume your stored tofu within 5-7 days. Always check for spoilage by noting any change in odor, color, or texture before using it in your recipes.

11. Consider freezing for longer storage: If you’re planning to keep tofu for an extended period, consider slicing it into smaller portions and store them in a sealed ziplock bag or airtight container in the freezer. Frozen tofu can last up to 3 months.

By following these 11 steps, you will be able to store your tofu effectively and enjoy delicious meals made from fresh and well-preserved tofu any time you want.
