Yuzu is a popular Nintendo Switch emulator for Windows that allows you to play your favorite Switch games on your PC. However, like any other emulator, Yuzu can be quite slow and require optimization to run efficiently. In this article, we will discuss some tips and tricks on how to speed up the Yuzu emulator on Windows.

1. Update your Graphics Card Drivers

The graphics card is one of the most important components of your computer when it comes to gaming, and if your drivers are outdated, your emulator can experience slower performance. So it’s essential to keep your graphics card drivers up-to-date to ensure optimal performance.

To update your graphics card drivers:

a. Go to Start and search for “Device Manager.”

b. Locate the “Display Adapters” option and click on it.

c. Right-click on your graphics card and select “Update Driver.”

d. Follow the on-screen instructions to download and install the latest drivers.

2. Use OpenGL or Vulkan

Yuzu has two rendering backends – OpenGL and Vulkan. While OpenGL is the default option, gamers have reported that Vulkan may provide better performance.

To change the rendering backend:

a. Click on “Emulation” in the main menu.

b. Select “Configure.”

c. Click on “Graphics.”

d. Choose “Vulkan” as your rendering backend.

e. Restart your emulator for the new changes to take effect.

3. Turn Off Shader Caching

While shader caching can speed up the emulator’s performance after the initial load, it can slow down the loading of the game’s shaders initially. So, disabling shader caching can speed up the game’s performance.

To turn off shader caching:

a. Go to the main menu and click on “Emulation.”

b. Choose “Configure.”

c. Click on “Graphics.”

d. Click on “Advanced.”

e. Locate the option “Use disk shader cache” and select “Off.”

f. Restart your emulator for the new changes to take effect.

4. Adjust the resolution

Reducing the resolution can help increase the emulator’s performance, especially if your computer has limited resources. The lower the resolution you choose, the higher the chances of improving game performance.
To adjust the resolution:

a. Go to the main menu and click on “Emulation.”

b. Choose “Configure.”

c. Click on “Graphics.”

d. Adjust the resolution by using the “Resolution Scale” drop-down menu.

e. Restart your emulator for the new changes to take effect.

5. Close any unnecessary programs

Running other programs alongside the emulator can consume system resources that could lead to slow performance. So, it’s essential to close any programs that you are not using.

6. Upgrade your Computer

If you’ve tried all the above tips and your emulator is still laggy, then it’s time to consider upgrading your PC. Upgrading your computer’s processor, graphics card or RAM can significantly improve the emulator’s performance, allowing you to play smoothly.
