Step 1: Learn the basics

Before attempting to execute the spear, familiarize yourself with basic wrestling techniques such as grappling, takedowns, and escapes. These skills will provide a solid foundation for performing more advanced moves like the spear.

Step 2: Warm up and stretch

Warming up your muscles and stretching is crucial before any physical activity, including wrestling. This will help prevent injuries while performing the spear.

Step 3: Observe experienced wrestlers

Watch professional wrestlers or attend local wrestling matches to see how they execute the spear. Take note of their stance, approach, and technique.

Step 4: Practice your stance

To perform a successful spear, start by standing with one foot slightly forward (your dominant leg). Bend your knees slightly and maintain a low center of gravity.

Step 5: Work on your approach

Move towards your opponent quickly to close the distance between you. Keep your head down and shoulders low to protect yourself from potential counterattacks.

Step 6: Target the midsection

As you approach your opponent, focus on targeting their midsection. This is where you want to make contact with your shoulder during the spear.

Step 7: Lead with your dominant shoulder

As you move in for the spear, rotate your hips to lead with your dominant shoulder. This will give you more power during the attack.

Step 8: Tuck in your head

As you make contact with your opponent’s midsection, tuck in your chin and keep your head down. This will help protect your neck from injury during the collision.

Step 9: Drive through your opponent

Once you make contact with your opponent’s midsection, use the momentum from your approach to drive through them. Aim to knock them off their feet and onto the ground.

Step 10: Maintain control

While performing the spear, be sure to maintain control by keeping your arms around your opponent’s waist. This will help you guide them to the ground and prevent them from escaping.

Step 11: Land safely

When you bring your opponent to the ground, make sure to land safely. Aim to land on your forearms and shoulder, avoiding contact with your head or neck.

Step 12: Secure a pin or submission

Once you’ve successfully speared your opponent, follow through with a pin or submission hold to finish the match.

Step 13: Practice regularly

As with any wrestling move, practice makes perfect. Train with a partner and regularly work on your spear technique to improve your skill over time.

Step 14: Seek professional guidance

Finally, don’t hesitate to seek out assistance from a professional coach or experienced wrestler. They can provide valuable tips for improving your spear and overall wrestling ability.

By following these 14 steps, you’ll be on your way to mastering the spear like a pro wrestler. Remember, practice is key – so keep working on your technique and enjoy the thrill of executing this powerful move in your next match!
