Step 1: Write Quality Lyrics

To sell your lyrics, make sure they are well-written, unique, and express an emotion or tell a story that resonates with people. Invest time in developing your songwriting skills and focus on creating captivating hooks.

Step 2: Research the Market

Understand the musical genres and audiences you’re targeting. Study successful songs within that genre and analyze the lyrics to better tailor your content.

Step 3: Copyright Your Work

Register your lyrics with the U.S. Copyright Office or the relevant authority in your country to protect your intellectual property.

Step 4: Create a Professional Portfolio

Compile a portfolio of your best lyrics to showcase your abilities as a songwriter. Include references to related experiences, collaborations or awards.

Step 5: Network with Industry Professionals

Attend industry events, conferences, and workshops to meet fellow songwriters, music producers, and artists. Establish relationships that may lead to collaboration opportunities or future employment.

Step 6: Collaborate with Other Songwriters

Working with others can strengthen your skills and portfolio while expanding your network within the industry.

Step 7: Consider Co-writing Opportunities

Co-write songs with established artists to increase exposure and develop a track record of successful songs.

Step 8: Record a Demo

Hire a singer or use your voice to record a demo of your songs, showcasing their potential. This will make it easier for potential buyers to envision how the finished product might sound.

Step 9: Submit Your Work to Opportunities

Look for artist calls, contests, or talent searches where you can submit your lyrics for potential collaborations or placements.

Step 10: Pitch Your Lyrics Directly

Contact artists, managers, or music producers directly and pitch your work. Always be professional during these interactions and be prepared for rejections.

Step 11: Use Social Media Platforms

Promote your work on social media platforms like YouTube, Instagram, or TikTok by sharing your demo recordings or working with other musicians.

Step 12: Establish a Website

Create a professional website to showcase your lyrics, demos, and portfolio. Use this platform to connect with potential clients and industry professionals.

Step 13: Sign up for Songwriting Forums and Communities

Join online songwriting forums or communities where you can share your lyrics, collaborate with other writers and receive feedback from industry peers.

Step 14: Stay Informed about the Music Industry

Stay updated on current trends, industry news, and best practices to maintain your competitive edge.

Step 15: Be Persistent

Selling lyrics can be challenging; don’t be disheartened by rejections or setbacks. Keep refining your craft and seeking opportunities to advance in the industry.

About Us

Since technology is not going anywhere and does more good than harm, adapting is the best course of action. That is where The Tech Edvocate comes in. We plan to cover the PreK-12 and Higher Education EdTech sectors and provide our readers with the latest news and opinion on the subject. From time to time, I will invite other voices to weigh in on important issues in EdTech. We started this journey back in June 2016, and we plan to continue it for many more years to come. I hope that you will join us in this discussion of the past, present and future of EdTech and lend your own insight to the issues that are discussed.
