A synthetic wig can be a fantastic, cost-effective alternative to human hair wigs. However, as with any type of wig, they can become worn, tangled, or lose their shine. Luckily, with some care and attention, you can restore your synthetic wig’s former glory. Follow these 11 steps to help breathe new life into your synthetic wig.

1. Detangle: Before beginning the restoration process, gently detangle the wig using a wide-toothed comb or wig brush. Start at the ends and work your way up to the roots to avoid causing any damage.

2. Fill a sink or basin with lukewarm water: Mix a small amount of mild shampoo designed for synthetic wigs in the water until it is fully dissolved.

3. Submerge the wig: Gently place the wig into the water and let it soak for 5-10 minutes. Be sure to avoid rubbing or agitating it too much as this could cause further tangling.

4. Rinse thoroughly: Carefully lift the wig out of the water and hold under running lukewarm water to rinse out any shampoo residue. Make sure to rinse from roots to tips while being gentle with the fibers.

5. Condition: Apply a leave-in conditioner specifically made for synthetic wigs. This will help maintain its softness and shine.

6. Gently towel dry: Use a clean, dry towel to blot away excess water from your wig by pressing gently. Avoid wringing or twisting.

7. Air dry on a stand: Place your wig on a stand or wig head to dry completely in an open space with good ventilation. Never use heat (e.g., hair dryer) on a synthetic wig as it could damage the fibers.

8. Restyle as needed: Once your synthetic wig is completely dry, you can use a wide-toothed comb or fingers to gently detangle any remaining knots. You may also lightly trim any frayed or damaged ends.

9. Use low heat for styling: If you need to add curls, waves, or volume, use a heat-styling tool specifically designed for synthetic wigs on the lowest heat setting to minimize damage.

10. Store properly: To maintain your synthetic wig’s condition, store it on a wig stand or in a box with tissue paper when not in use to avoid tangling and dust accumulation.

11. Perform regular maintenance: To keep your synthetic wig looking and feeling its best, follow these steps every few weeks or as needed depending on how frequently you wear it.

By following these 11 simple steps, you can effectively care for and restore your synthetic wig, keeping it looking fabulous for as long as possible. Always remember to use products designed specifically for synthetic wigs and treat them with gentle care to prolong their lifespan.
