How to reset a Roku in four steps

If you’re experiencing issues with your Roku device or simply want to start fresh, resetting it to factory settings can help solve the problem. A factory reset will delete all personal settings, preferences, and installed apps, bringing your device back to its original state. In this article, we’ll guide you through four simple steps to reset your Roku quickly and efficiently.

Step 1: Locate the Reset Button

The first step to resetting your Roku device is finding the reset button. Many Roku devices have a physical button on them that you can press and hold for about 20 seconds to initiate the reset process. The location of the button may vary depending on your model, but commonly, it can be found either on the back or bottom of the device. If you are unsure about your Roku model, consult the supplied user manual for more information.

Step 2: Access the Settings Menu (Alternative Method)

If you cannot locate the physical reset button on your device or prefer using the on-screen menu, you can opt for an alternative method. Start by pressing the “Home” button on your Roku remote control and navigate to the “Settings” menu from there. Scroll down and select “System” followed by “Advanced System Settings.” Within this menu, you will find the option to reset your device.

Step 3: Choose Factory Reset

In both methods – whether you’re using the physical button or navigating through menus – you’ll eventually reach a point where you need to choose between different types of resets. For a complete wipe of all settings, preferences, and installed apps on your device, select the “Factory Reset” option.

Step 4: Confirm and Wait

After selecting “Factory Reset,” prepare yourself for an important step: confirmation. Your Roku device will prompt you with a warning message alerting that all personal data will be deleted permanently. If you have backed up everything you need and are sure that this is the right course of action, confirm the reset. Your device will then go through the necessary process to restore itself to its original factory settings. This may take several minutes, so be patient.

Once your Roku has completed the reset process, it will restart automatically. From there, you can set up your device as if it were brand new, with all previous issues potentially resolved. Now that you know how to reset a Roku in four easy steps, keep this guide handy should you ever need to perform a factory reset again in the future.
