Introduction

Laminate flooring is a popular choice among homeowners because of its durability, low maintenance, and diverse range of styles. However, as with any flooring, it can sometimes become damaged or worn out over time. When that happens, it’s crucial to know how to replace your laminate flooring correctly. This article will provide you with a step-by-step guide on how to replace your laminate flooring like a pro.

Materials and Tools Needed

  1. Replacement laminate planks
  2. Pry bar
  3. Hammer
  4. Tape measure
  5. Circular saw or jigsaw
  6. Spacers
  7. Tapping block
  8. Utility knife
  9. Safety goggles and gloves

Steps to Replacing Laminate Flooring

1. Prepare the Area

Ensure that the area is free from any debris and furniture before you start the replacement process. Also, consider removing baseboards and other trim pieces surrounding the floor since they might interfere with the removal of old planks.

2. Remove Damaged Planks

Locate the damaged planks that you want to replace, and use a pry bar to gently lift them out of place without damaging the surrounding planks.

3. Measure and Cut Replacement Planks

Measure the size of the empty spaces where the old planks were removed and cut your new laminate planks accordingly using a circular saw or jigsaw.

4. Install Replacement Planks

Place spacers around the perimeter of the room to maintain an expansion gap between the wall and flooring, which prevents warping due to changes in temperature or humidity.

Insert the replacement plank’s tongue into the groove of an existing plank at a 45-degree angle, gently tapping it into place using a tapping block and hammer until it is level with neighboring planks.

Repeat this process with all replacement planks until they are all in position.

5. Reinstall Trim Pieces and Baseboards

After installing the new laminate flooring planks, it’s time to reinstall the trim pieces and baseboards you removed earlier.

6. Clean Up

Using a vacuum cleaner or broom, remove any sawdust or debris on the floor. Then, use a mop with a laminate-approved cleaning solution to clean the floor surface for a fresh, shiny look.

7. Moving Furniture Back

Once the floor is dry, carefully move your furniture back into place. Use felt pads underneath the legs of heavy items to protect your newly replaced laminate flooring.

Conclusion

Replacing laminate flooring may seem like an overwhelming process, but with patience and attention to detail, anyone can complete this home improvement project successfully. By following the step-by-step guide outlined in this article, you’ll be able to replace your old, damaged laminate flooring and enjoy a fresh new look in your home.
