How to Recork Champagne: 6 Steps

Introduction:

Champagne is a luxurious and popular drink that is often served at celebrations. Over time, it’s common for people to remain with open bottles of champagne whether they’ve been gently sipped or used in a toast. If not preserved properly, Champagne can lose its taste and fizz quite rapidly. Hence, recorking the bottle becomes essential to maintain its quality. In this article, we will discuss six easy steps to recork your champagne and enjoy it later.

Step 1: Get your supplies ready

To begin with, make sure you have the following supplies handy:

– A clean and dry wine stopper

– A champagne cork (preferably the original one)

– A pair of pliers

– A kitchen towel

Step 2: Twist the cork

Once you have all your supplies ready, it’s time to prepare the cork for reinsertion. Hold the cork firmly with your fingers (or pliers if needed) and gently twist it into a cylindrical shape.

Step 3: Wrap the towel around the top

Before you attempt to insert the cork back into the champagne bottle, wrap a kitchen towel around the top of the bottle as a safety precaution. This will prevent any potential injuries while re-corking.

Step 4: Reinsert the cork halfway

Now it’s time to carefully slide the shaped cork back into the bottle neck by gently pushing it downward while twisting and using slight pressure from your thumb on top of it. Make sure only half of it goes in—not too deep—so that you don’t force any air inside.

Step 5: Use a wine stopper

Insert a wine stopper over the half-inserted cork, making sure it fits snugly against both sides—the cork as well as around the rim of the bottle neck.

Step 6: Store the bottle upright

Your bottle of champagne should be carefully stored in an upright position, as storing it on its side can cause leakage or even introduce air into the bottle, compromising its taste and quality. Keep the bottle in a cool, dark place away from sunlight or heat sources.

Conclusion:

By following these six simple steps to recork your champagne, you will be able to preserve the taste and aroma of this bubbly delight for future enjoyment. Remember, it’s always better to drink the champagne sooner rather than later. However, if you must store it for some time, now you know how to do it right. Cheers!
