How to Play Wink Murder

Introduction:

Wink Murder is a popular party game that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. It’s a simple and entertaining activity that can easily be played in any social gathering or family event. The game involves players taking on different roles as they try to identify the “murderer” among them, while engaging in light-hearted banter and maintaining a poker face. In this article, we’ll discuss the rules and steps on how to play Wink Murder.

Materials Needed:

– A group of people (ideal for 6-20 players)

– A small piece of paper for each player

– A pen or pencil

Step 1: Prepare Character Cards

Before starting the game, create character cards for each player by writing roles on small pieces of paper. For a typical Wink Murder game, these roles consist of one “Murderer,” one “Detective,” and the rest as “Civilians.” Adjust the number of characters according to the size of your group.

Step 2: Assign Roles to Players

Once you have prepared the character cards, fold each piece of paper so that no one can see what’s written on it. Place them in a container, such as a hat or bowl, and ask every player to draw a card without looking at other participants’ cards. Each person should secretly check their role without revealing it to anyone else.

Step 3: Start the Game

Now that everyone has their assigned roles, the game begins. The Detective stands at one side, separate from other players who are all seated in a circle facing each other. The objective is for the players to continue making eye contact and interacting with one another while attempting to catch the Murderer.

Step 4: Winking Strikes

The Murderer’s goal is to discreetly “kill” other players by winking at them. Civilians and the Detective must be extra observant to identify the Murderer before they eliminate everyone.

When a player sees they’re being winked at by the Murderer, they must act out a fake death scene after a couple of seconds – this adds to the fun factor and helps maintain suspense. However, if a Civilian accidentally mistakes someone else’s wink for the Murderer’s, they must continue playing as if nothing happened.

Step 5: Accusations and Investigations

The Detective’s role is to solve the mystery and identify the Murderer among the group. The Detective has limited accusations depending on the number of players, usually around 3-5 chances. If a Detective suspects someone of being the Murderer, they can announce their suspicion by stating, “I accuse (player’s name) of being the Murderer.”

The accused player must then reveal their role without showing their character card. If they are indeed the Murderer, then the game ends with everyone congratulating the Detective for successfully solving the case. However, if they turn out to be a Civilian, then play continues with another round.

Step 6: Game Over

The game ends when either the Detective makes a successful accusation or runs out of chances to accuse while the Murderer continues eliminating other players. In both scenarios, participants can laugh together about all the unexpected twists and events that took place during gameplay.

Conclusion:

Hosting a Wink Murder game is an entertaining way to break ice at gatherings or bring laughter into your family game nights. Just follow these simple rules and steps to have a thrilling experience with your friends and loved ones!
