Piercing your septum has become increasingly popular in recent years. It’s a versatile and unique body modification, but it’s also essential to understand the process and safety measures involved. This article will provide you with a step-by-step guide on how to pierce your septum correctly.

Disclaimer: It’s highly recommended to get your septum pierced by a professional piercer for guaranteed safety and sterility. This guide is for informational purposes only.

1. Gather Materials:

To pierce your septum, you will need the following materials:

– A sterilized, needle specifically designed for piercing (14-16 gauge is recommended)

– Piercing clamps

– A sterilized septum retainer or horseshoe-shaped jewelry

– Cotton swabs

– Rubbing alcohol or an antiseptic solution

– Sterile gloves

2. Clean the Area:

Before starting the piercing process, it’s crucial to clean the area properly. Use a cotton swab and rubbing alcohol or antiseptic solution to disinfect the entire nasal area around your septum.

3. Choose the Location:

The ideal location for a septum piercing is at the “sweet spot,” which is a thin membrane of skin towards the front of your nostrils. The soft spot can be felt easily using your pinky finger, and accurate placement will ensure minimal discomfort during the healing process.

4. Set Up Your Equipment:

Ensure all your equipment, including gloves, needle, and clamps, are ready and within reach before you start. Put on your sterile gloves to maintain cleanliness throughout the procedure.

5. Clamp the Septum:

Place the piercing clamp securely onto your sweet spot without applying too much pressure. Check for appropriate alignment once more before proceeding.

6. Pierce Your Septum:

With a steady hand, insert the sterilized needle through the marked location on the sweet spot. The needle should go through the soft membrane cleanly and smoothly.

7. Insert the Jewelry:

Remove the needle and carefully thread your jewelry into the freshly pierced hole. Gently adjust your septum ring or retainer to fit comfortably in place.

8. Clean and Check for Infection:

Use a cotton swab soaked in rubbing alcohol or antiseptic solution to clean off any remaining blood or marker ink on your nasal area. Watch out for signs of infection, such as excessive redness, swelling, or discharge.

9. Septum Piercing Aftercare:

Aftercare is an essential part of the piercing process, as it ensures proper healing and prevents infection. Keep your piercing clean by using a saline solution twice daily for at least 6-8 weeks.

In conclusion, piercing your septum requires careful preparation and attention to detail. Remember that seeking out a professional piercer is the best option to ensure safety and perfect results. Follow proper aftercare instructions and enjoy a unique new addition to your personal style!
