Introduction:

Parboiling chicken is a popular cooking technique used to partially cook the meat before finishing it with another method, such as grilling, pan-searing, or baking. This process not only cuts down on cooking time but also helps to keep the chicken moist and tender. Learn how to parboil chicken in 10 simple steps!

Step 1: Choose the Chicken

To parboil chicken, start by choosing the right type and size of your preferred chicken pieces. You can parboil whole chicken breasts, thighs, drumsticks, or even mixed pieces.

Step 2: Prepare Your Ingredients

Apart from the chicken you’ve chosen, gather these additional ingredients:

– Salt (to taste)

– Optional seasonings like black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, or herbs.

Step 3: Rinse and Clean the Chicken

Rinse the chicken pieces under cold running water and pat them dry with paper towels. This step removes any surface bacteria and ensures that you have clean chicken ready for parboiling.

Step 4: Season Your Chicken

Season your chicken with salt and any optional seasonings you prefer. This helps to impart flavor to the meat during parboiling.

Step 5: Fill a Pot with Water

Select a deep pot large enough to hold all the chicken pieces comfortably. Fill up the pot halfway with water.

Step 6: Heat the Water

Place your pot on high heat and bring the water to a rolling boil.

Step 7: Add Chicken Pieces

Carefully add your seasoned chicken pieces one at a time into the boiling water. Ensure that they are completely submerged in water.

Step 8: Cook for Half of The Desired Time

Once all the pieces are added, lower your heat and maintain a low simmer. Parboil the chicken pieces for about half of the cooking time you would normally use if fully cooking them with another method. For example, if your recipe calls for 40 minutes of grilling, parboil for about 20 minutes.

Step 9: Check Chicken Doneness

Use a meat thermometer to check the internal temperature. Parboiled chicken should reach 145°F (63°C) before it is removed from the pot, as it will continue to cook when using another method.

Step 10: Remove and Drain

Using a slotted spoon or tongs, remove the parboiled chicken pieces from the pot and place them on a wire rack or plate lined with paper towels to drain excess water. Allow them to cool for a few minutes before proceeding with your preferred method of cooking.

Conclusion:

Parboiling chicken is a useful technique to ensure moist, tender, and evenly cooked meat. Follow these easy steps to expertly parboil chicken, and enjoy delicious results in your dishes!
