For avid gamers, the release of the PlayStation 5 has been a major event. The new generation console comes with impressive hardware and software improvements, along with some exciting new features. One such feature is its built-in microphone, which allows players to chat with their online gaming partners during gameplay.

However, not everyone wants to use the controller’s microphone. There may be instances when you want to disable the microphone, such as when you’re playing in a noisy environment or you simply don’t feel like talking. In this article, we’ll show you how to mute your PS5 controller’s microphone by default.

Step 1: Go to “Settings”

To access the necessary settings, you need to navigate to the PS5’s main menu. Go to the icon labeled “Settings,” which should be located on the far right side of the screen.

Step 2: Access “Sound”

From the Settings menu, you’ll now need to select “Sound.” This will open a list of audio-related settings.

Step 3: Choose “Microphone”

Within the “Sound” menu, you’ll find “Microphone.” Select this option to open up the microphone specific settings.

Step 4: Disable “Microphone”

Under the “Microphone” settings, you should see an option called “Microphone Status When Logged In.” If you want your microphone to be disabled by default, select “Mute.” This will ensure that your microphone is always muted until you manually unmute it.

And there you have it! Following these four simple steps will ensure that your PS5 controller microphone is muted by default, giving you more control over your gaming experience.

In addition to the above steps, if you want to mute your microphone during gameplay, you can also press the microphone icon on your controller to instantly mute or unmute your microphone. This can be useful if you suddenly need to speak with somebody in the room or if you need to take a break from talking in-game.

In conclusion, the PS5’s built-in microphone is a great feature, but not everyone wants to use it. By utilizing the “Microphone Status When Logged In” setting, you can easily mute your PS5 controller’s microphone by default, giving you a more personalized gaming experience.
