Step 1: Locate the Side Switch

Find the switch on the left side of the iPhone, just above the volume buttons. It is a small, horizontal switch.

Step 2: Toggle the Side Switch

To mute your iPhone, flip the side switch towards the back of your device. When muted, you will see a small orange line beneath the switch.

Step 3: Confirm Muted Status

Once you’ve toggled the switch, check for a small bell icon with a diagonal line through it at the top of your screen. This confirms that your iPhone is muted.

Step 4: Control Ringer and Alert Volume

When your iPhone is not on mute, you can control the volume of incoming calls and alerts by pressing the volume up or down buttons on its left side.

Step 5: Access Sound Settings

To further manage audio settings on your iPhone, open the Settings app and tap “Sounds & Haptics.”

Step 6: Adjust Ringtone and Text Tone

In “Sounds & Haptics,” you can change your ringtone and text tone as well as set specific sounds for individual contacts.

Step 7: Customize Vibration Patterns

You can also create custom vibration patterns for calls and texts in “Sounds & Haptics.” Tap on “Ringtone” or “Text Tone,” then select “Vibration” at the top of the screen.

Step 8: Disable Keyboard Clicks

If you’d prefer to mute keyboard clicks while typing, navigate to “Settings,” then “Sounds & Haptics,” and toggle off the “Keyboard Clicks” switch at the bottom of the screen.

With these eight simple steps, you now know how to mute an iPhone and customize its audio settings to better suit your preferences. Enjoy distraction-free moments without missing any important notifications.

About Us

Since technology is not going anywhere and does more good than harm, adapting is the best course of action. That is where The Tech Edvocate comes in. We plan to cover the PreK-12 and Higher Education EdTech sectors and provide our readers with the latest news and opinion on the subject. From time to time, I will invite other voices to weigh in on important issues in EdTech. We hope to provide a well-rounded, multi-faceted look at the past, present, the future of EdTech in the US and internationally.

We started this journey back in June 2016, and we plan to continue it for many more years to come. I hope that you will join us in this discussion of the past, present and future of EdTech and lend your own insight to the issues that are discussed.
