Intro:

Mod Podge is a versatile craft medium known for its adhesive, sealant, and finish properties. It is widely used in various DIY projects to create beautiful and long-lasting results. One popular use of Mod Podge is to seal jigsaw puzzles, preserving and protecting the completed work for display or as a cherished memory. In this article, you’ll learn how to apply Mod Podge to your puzzle with ease.

Materials:

– Completed jigsaw puzzle

– Wax paper or plastic wrap

– Mod Podge (Matte or Gloss)

– Foam brush or paintbrush

– Clear acrylic sealer (optional)

Step 1: Prepare the workspace

First, choose a flat surface to work on, like a table or countertop. Cover the area with wax paper or plastic wrap to protect it from spills and make the cleanup process easier.

Step 2: Assemble the puzzle

Assemble your jigsaw puzzle on top of the wax paper or plastic wrap. Be sure that all pieces are pressed tightly together, and there are no gaps between them.

Step 3: Apply Mod Podge

Pour some Mod Podge into a disposable container and dip your foam brush or paintbrush into it. Apply an even layer of Mod Podge over the entire surface of the puzzle, starting from one corner and working your way towards the opposite corner. Be gentle while applying so that you don’t accidentally move puzzle pieces out of place.

Step 4: Allow it to dry

Once you have applied a generous layer of Mod Podge on your puzzle, allow it to dry for a minimum of 15-20 minutes. Depending on humidity levels in your room, drying time may vary. Check if it’s dry by gently touching the surface; it should be tacky but not wet.

Step 5: Apply additional coats (optional)

If you want a more durable seal or glossy finish, apply additional coats of Mod Podge after the previous layer has dried. For best results, apply 2-3 coats in total, allowing each coat to dry before applying the next one.

Step 6: Spray with a clear acrylic sealer (optional)

As a final protective measure, you can apply a clear acrylic sealer spray after your puzzle has completely dried. The sealer will provide added durability and protect your work from UV rays, preventing colors from fading over time.

Step 7: Display your work

After your puzzle has dried and cured, carefully peel it off the wax paper or plastic wrap. Now it’s ready to be displayed! You may choose to frame it, mount it on foam board, or hang it directly on the wall.

Conclusion:

Mod Podging a puzzle is an easy and enjoyable way to preserve your completed work for years to come. By following these simple steps, you can transform your favorite puzzles into eye-catching home décor or unique gifts for loved ones. Happy crafting!
