With the ever-increasing smartphone engagement and usage, making sure that your Android phone’s screen brightness is adjusted correctly at night has become essential. Staring at a bright screen during the night can strain your eyes, affect your sleep quality, and cause various health issues over time. In this article, we’ll discuss how to make your Android screen extra dark for a more comfortable experience when using your phone late at night or in low light conditions.

1. Enable Night Light

The first step you can take is to enable the Night Light feature on your Android device. This feature filters out blue light emitted by the screen, which is known to have adverse effects on your sleep cycle.

To enable Night Light:

a. Open the Settings app.

b. Scroll down and tap Display.

c. Tap “Night Light.”

d. Toggle on “Turn on now” or schedule it by selecting “Turn on automatically.”

2. Lower the Screen Brightness

In addition to enabling Night Light, you should lower your display brightness. Here’s how:

a. Swipe down from the top of your screen to open the notification panel.

b. Find the brightness slider and drag it to a lower level that feels comfortable.

3. Use Dark Mode

Many Android apps and operating systems come with a built-in dark mode option that changes the app’s interface from light colors to dark colors.

To enable Dark Mode:

a. Open the Settings app.

b. Scroll down and tap Display.

c. Tap “Dark Theme” or “Dark Mode” and toggle it on.

4. Install Third-Party Apps

Some third-party apps allow you to further decrease your screen’s brightness below the built-in minimum level set by Android.

One such example is Dimly – Screen Dimmer:

a. Download Dimly – Screen Dimmer from Google Play Store.

b. Open the app and allow necessary permissions.

c. Adjust the brightness using the slider and enable additional settings, such as the blue light filter.

5. Use a Screen Filter

Apart from brightness control apps, you can also use screen filter apps like Screen Filter – Night Mode to apply a dark overlay on your screen, which further reduces brightness and alleviates strain on your eyes.

a. Download Screen Filter — Night Mode from Google Play Store.

b. Open the app and customize the color and intensity of the filter.

c. Tap “Start” to apply the filter.

By following these steps, you can make your Android screen extra dark at night, ensuring comfortable usage without causing harm to your eyes or sleep patterns. Always remember to adjust your screen brightness according to your environment and avoid excessive screen time, especially before bedtime, to maintain good eye health and sleep hygiene.
