How to Make Scrunchies: 11 Steps
Scrunchies are a fashionable and practical accessory that can add a touch of flair to any hairstyle. With the following 11 steps, you can create your own scrunchies in no time.
1. Gather materials: Before starting, gather the necessary materials. You will need a fabric of your choice, an elastic band, a sewing machine or needle and thread, scissors, and a safety pin.
2. Measure and cut the fabric: Cut a strip of fabric approximately 22 inches long and 4 inches wide. This will be the base for your scrunchie
3. Fold your fabric in half lengthwise: With the right sides facing each other, fold your fabric strip in half lengthwise so that its width is now 2 inches.
4. Sew along the long edge: Use about 1/4 inch seam allowance and sew along the long open edge of the fabric strip. Leave both short ends open for turning it inside out later.
5. Turn the fabric inside out: Using a safety pin or another tool of your choice, turn the fabric tube inside out so that its seams are on the inside and its right sides are facing out.
6. Iron the fabric: If necessary, use an iron to smoothen out any creases in the fabric.
7. Cut your elastic: Measure and cut a piece of elastic that’s approximately 9 inches long. This will be used to create the stretch in your scrunchie.
8. Thread the elastic through the fabric tube: Attach one end of your elastic band to a safety pin and use it to slide the elastic through the length of your fabric tube.
9. Secure both ends of the elastic band: Once you have pulled the elastic all the way through, knot its ends together securely or sew them if you prefer an even stronger hold.
10. Close up both ends of fabric: To sew the ends of the fabric together, fold one of the short edges inward by about 1/2 inch and place the raw edge of the other end inside it. Then, sew along this overlap to complete the loop.
11. Adjust and enjoy: Your scrunchie is now finished! Adjust the fabric around the elastic evenly for a polished look, then wear your new accessory with pride.
Now that you know how to make scrunchies in just a few simple steps, you can create a collection for yourself or share them with friends and family. Experiment with different fabrics and patterns to match any outfit or occasion. Happy crafting!
