Pancakes are a classic breakfast favorite that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. Making pancake batter from scratch is not only simple, but also allows you to customize your pancakes to your taste preferences. Follow these five easy steps to create the perfect pancake batter for a delicious breakfast treat.

Step 1: Gather Your Ingredients

Before you begin making your pancake batter, gather the following ingredients:

– 2 cups all-purpose flour

– 2 tablespoons granulated sugar

– 1 teaspoon baking soda

– 1 teaspoon baking powder

– ½ teaspoon salt

– 2 cups milk (whole or low-fat)

– 2 large eggs

– ¼ cup unsalted butter (melted and cooled)

Step 2: Combine the Dry Ingredients

In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Mixing these ingredients together first ensures that they are evenly distributed throughout your batter.

Step 3: Mix in the Wet Ingredients

In a separate bowl or measuring cup, whisk together the milk, eggs, and melted butter until well combined. Slowly pour the wet mixture into the bowl with the dry ingredients while gently whisking to incorporate them together. Be careful not to overmix the batter – some small lumps are okay, as they will disappear when the pancakes cook.

Step 4: Rest the Batter (Optional)

Allowing the batter to rest for about 10 minutes before cooking can result in fluffier pancakes. This is because it gives the baking powder and baking soda time to activate and create tiny air bubbles within the batter. If you’re short on time, though, this step can be skipped.

Step 5: Cook Your Pancakes

Heat a nonstick skillet or griddle on medium heat and lightly grease it with butter or vegetable oil. Pour about ¼ cup of batter onto the hot surface for each pancake, spreading it out slightly with the back of a spoon if necessary. Cook until bubbles form on the surface of the pancake and its edges appear set, about 2-3 minutes. Flip the pancake and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes, or until cooked through and golden brown.

Serve your homemade pancakes warm with your favorite toppings like syrup, fresh fruit, or whipped cream. Enjoy your delicious breakfast creation!
