1. Choose a theme: Select an overall theme or concept for your crossword puzzle. This helps in creating more consistent and enjoyable puzzles and keeps the content focused.

2. Brainstorm words: Create a list of words related to your chosen theme. This list will serve as the foundation for your crossword puzzle.

3. Determine grid size: Decide on the size of your crossword grid according to the number of words you have and their length. Standard puzzle sizes include 15×15 or 21×21 squares.

4. Design the grid layout: Sketch out your grid layout by randomly filling in black squares, ensuring there is both horizontal and vertical symmetry.

5. Enter main words: Fill in the words with the highest point value or that are most essential to your theme first by inserting them into the grid horizontally or vertically.

6. Add secondary words: Begin filling in the remaining words from your list, ensuring they intersect with other words on the board.

7. Utilize intersection points: Utilize intersection points between words to generate new word ideas, ensuring that every letter on the board connects to at least one other letter.

8. Use software assistance (optional): Consider using crossword creation software or websites that can generate grids and check word availability for you, this can save time and give a professional finish.

9. Fill in all blank squares: Once all of your words are sorted on the grid, fill remaining empty squares with black, maintaining symmetry within your design.

10. Number your squares: Number each square where a word begins horizontally or vertically in ascending order starting from top left corner to follow conventional crossword standards.

11. Generate clues: Write appealing and challenging clues for each word using creative riddles, puns, or synonyms that keep solvers engaged and entertained.

12. Test playability: Solve the puzzle yourself or ask a friend to play through it. This ensures that your crossword has the desired level of difficulty and is free from errors or inconsistencies.

13. Review and revise: Based on playtesting feedback, review your grid, clues and answers for any modifications needed to improve the overall puzzle experience.

14. Finalize your puzzle: Make final edits to the grid, clues, and word list so that the crossword is polished and error-free.

15. Share your creation: Once completed, share your crossword puzzle with others through print or online resources. Encourage feedback to refine your skills and create even better puzzles in the future.

About Us

Since technology is not going anywhere and does more good than harm, adapting is the best course of action. That is where The Tech Edvocate comes in. We plan to cover the PreK-12 and Higher Education EdTech sectors and provide our readers with the latest news and opinion on the subject. From time to time, I will invite other voices to weigh in on important issues in EdTech. We hope to provide a well-rounded, multi-faceted look at the past, present, the future of EdTech in the US and internationally.

We started this journey back in June 2016, and we plan to continue it for many more years to come. I hope that you will join us in this discussion of the past, present and future of EdTech and lend your own insight to the issues that are discussed.
