It’s no secret that thongs are a popular choice of lingerie for many people. Offering both comfort and style, they can be a great asset to your wardrobe. If you’ve ever been curious about how to make your own thong, this article will guide you through the step-by-step process.

Materials You’ll Need:

– Fabric of your choice (soft and stretchy materials like lace, lycra, or cotton with elastane are recommended)

– Matching thread

– Scissors

– A sewing machine or needle for hand-sewing

– Elastic for the waistband and leg openings

– Measuring tape or ruler

– Pins

– A thong pattern, or an existing thong to use as a template

Step 1: Create Your Pattern

You can either purchase a thong pattern from a store or online, or create your own by tracing around an existing thong that fits you well. Remember to add seam allowances while creating the pattern. The two main pieces you’ll need are the front triangle and the back G-string section.

Step 2: Cut Out the Fabric Pieces

Once you have your pattern ready, lay it out on your chosen fabric and trace around it using fabric chalk or marker. Cut out two front triangular pieces and one back G-string piece using sharp scissors.

Step 3: Attach the Front Pieces Together

Place the two front triangle pieces together with their right sides touching each other. Sew along both curved side edges while leaving the top straight edge open for turning it inside out later. Turn the front triangle fabric right side out and press it flat with an iron if needed.

Step 4: Assemble Your Thong

Attach the wider end of the back G-string piece to one side of the top straight edge of the front triangle and pin in place. Sew along this edge, ensuring that the elastic is sandwiched between the two layers of fabric. Repeat this process for attaching the other side of the back piece to the other side of the front triangle.

Step 5: Attach Elastic to Leg Openings

Measure and cut two elastic pieces that are long enough to go around each leg opening. Pin and sew one end of each elastic piece to the tip of the G-string section where it meets the front triangle. Stretch the elastic around the leg openings while sewing, so it lays flat and snug against your skin.

Step 6: Attach Waistband Elastic

Measure and cut a length of elastic for the waistband, making sure that it fits comfortably around your waist while adding a little extra for overlap when sewing. Pin one end to an edge of the waist, ensuring that it is securely tucked between both layers of fabric. Sew, stretching the elastic as you go, until you reach the starting point again. Sew both ends of the elastic together for a secure fit.

Step 7: Final Touches

Trim any excess fabric or threads and try your homemade thong on for size. Make any adjustments if necessary to ensure a comfortable fit.

Congratulations! You now know how to make a thong from scratch. With some practice, you’ll be able to create unique and stylish lingerie pieces that are perfect for you or as gifts for your loved ones.
