How to Do a Hair Wrap: 11 Steps
A hair wrap is a fun, trendy way to add a pop of color and personality to your hairstyle. Perfect for summer vacations, festivals or just to experiment with a new look, hair wraps are easy to create and remove without damaging your hair. Follow these simple steps to learn how to create your own hair wrap.
1. Choose your materials: To make a hair wrap, you’ll need embroidery floss or thin yarn in various colors, scissors and a comb.
2. Section off the hair: First comb through your hair ensuring it’s tangle-free. Pick the strand of hair where you want your wrap to be located, ideally around an inch thick. Hold the section and separate it from the rest of your hair with a small elastic or clip.
3. Prepare your thread: Cut one or two strands of each chosen color of embroidery floss, measuring about three times the length you want the wrap to be.
4. Knot the thread at the root: One end of all strings can be combined in a knot as close to the root of the selected strand as possible. Use a clip at this point if needed.
5. Splitting strands: If you’re using multiple colors, separate each color strand into its own section.
6. Begin wrapping: Select one color strand and tightly wrap it around the selected piece of hair underneath the knot working through it downwards.
7. Switching colors: To change colors, simply tie a knot around the current strand with your new color and allow any previous strands to hang free. Proceed wrapping with the new strand.
8. Continue wrapping: Repeat steps 6-7 until you’ve reached your desired length for your hair wrap.
9. Final knots: Once you’ve achieved desired length, secure by tying all strands together on top of each other multiple times against the last loops of wrapped floss and then cut off extra thread with scissors.
10. Seal the ends: Add a drop of clear nail polish or fabric glue onto the knots, letting them dry completely before handling.
11. Enjoy your hair wrap! You can style your hair in various ways, such as braids, ponytails, or buns to show off your new wrap and add texture to your looks.
