How to Make a T-Shirt Folder: 11 Steps

Whether you’re looking to save space in your closet or simply appreciate neatly-folded clothing, creating a t-shirt folder will revolutionize your wardrobe organization game. Follow these 11 steps to make your very own reusable t-shirt folder using accessible materials.
Materials Needed:
– Cardboard (approximately 30×40 inches)
– Ruler
– Scissors or utility knife
– Marker
– Clear tape
Step 1: Measure and cut the cardboard
Using a ruler, measure and mark three equally-sized rectangles on the cardboard, each measuring 10×12 inches. Use scissors or a utility knife to carefully cut them out. These will serve as your main folding boards.
Step 2: Cut an additional piece
Cut an additional cardboard piece measuring 12×10 inches (which should be the same size as your other pieces). This will act as the base of the t-shirt folder.
Step 3: Align the folding boards
Place all three folding boards next to each other, making sure they’re aligned horizontally. They should be evenly spaced about half an inch apart. The additional base piece should be positioned beneath these.Step 4: Tape the boards together
Using clear tape, attach the folding boards to one another along their top edges (where they meet).
Make sure they can still move independently when taped together. Do not tape the base piece just yet.
Step 5: Attach base and folding boards
Once all three folding boards are connected at the top, tape them down to the base piece along their bottom edges. This assembly will hold your folding boards in place while allowing them to pivot upward for folding.
Step 6: Cut two handle pieces
Measure and cut out two cardboard strips measuring approximately 2×10 inches each. These will serve as handles for your t-shirt folder.
Step 7: Attach handle pieces
Tape the handle pieces to the top and bottom of the center folding board. The handles will allow for easier lifting and holding during folding.
Step 8: Test your t-shirt folder
To test your newly-created t-shirt folder, place a t-shirt face-down on top of the folder, aligning its collar with the top edge of the center folding board.
Step 9: Fold sides using side boards
Hold the handles of the left-side folding board and fold it upward to create a crease down the center of your shirt. Unfold and repeat on the other side.
Step 10: Fold the bottom using center board
Hold onto the bottom handle of the center folding board and fold it upward. Make sure that your t-shirt is folded neatly onto itself.
Step 11: Unfold and enjoy
Unfold all folding boards back into their original positions, and carefully remove your neatly-folded t-shirt.
Congratulations! In just 11 steps, you’ve created a DIY t-shirt folder that will keep your clothing organized in style. This handmade device can be used for various types of garments such as shirts, sweaters, and even pants—ensuring a clutter-free and streamlined wardrobe.
