How to Make a Boomerang Paper Airplane
A boomerang paper airplane is a fun and exciting twist on the traditional paper airplane. With its ability to return back to you after being thrown, it’s a great way to add some extra entertainment to your paper airplane experience. In this article, we will guide you through the process of creating your own boomerang paper airplane.
Materials Needed:
– A standard 8.5 x 11-inch sheet of paper (A4 size will also work)
Step 1: Fold the Paper in Half
Start by folding the sheet of paper in half lengthwise, ensuring that the edges line up perfectly. This will create a long, thin rectangular shape. Crease the fold well and then unfold the paper, leaving a center crease as a guideline.
Step 2: Fold the Top Corners
Take one of the top corners and fold it down towards the center crease, aligning the edge of the corner with the center crease. This will create a small triangular shape along the top edge of your paper. Repeat this step with the other top corner.
Step 3: Fold Down the Point
Now, take hold of the point where your two triangular folds meet at the top and fold it down so that it extends just beyond the lower edges created by those triangles. This will form a larger triangle below your previous folds.
Step 4: Fold Corners Again
Once you have created your larger triangle, you need to fold both outside corners inwards towards your center crease again, just like you did earlier with smaller folds. This should create two smaller triangles on top of your folded larger triangle from step 3.
Step 5: Fold Up the Bottom Edge
Now that you have two smaller triangles overlapping each other, fold up their base in line with where they cross over each other on top of your larger triangle fold from earlier. This will help create the wings of your boomerang paper airplane.
Step 6: Fold the Plane in Half
Fold your paper in half along the center crease, making sure that all your previous folds line up neatly. Be sure to flatten out all folds for a crisper flying experience.
Step 7: Create the Wings
To create the wings, fold each of them down towards you, making sure that the wings’ leading edges align, leaving approximately 1/4 inch margin from the bottom edge of your plane. The wings should be symmetrical and wingtips should be pointing out towards you.
Step 8: Adjust for Boomerang Effect
Gently adjust and slightly twist the wingtips upwards while keeping the rear portion flat. This will create some extra lift when thrown and create the desired rotational spin that causes your boomerang paper airplane to return back to you.
Now that you’ve learned how to make a boomerang paper airplane, it’s time to practice throwing it. Give it a gentle toss with a slight angle upwards and be prepared to catch it as it makes its way back to you! Happy flying!
