How to Lower AST Levels: 8 Steps

Introduction:

Aspartate aminotransferase (AST) is an enzyme that plays a crucial role in the metabolism of amino acids. Your liver primarily releases it, but other parts of your body like heart, kidneys, brain, and muscles also produce AST. Elevated AST levels may indicate liver damage or other health issues; hence, it’s essential to keep them in check. In this article, we will explore eight steps to lower AST levels effectively.

Step 1: Maintain a healthy diet

A balanced diet is crucial to maintaining proper liver function and overall health. Incorporate plenty of fresh fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean protein sources like fish and poultry, and healthy fats like olive oil. Avoid processed foods, fried foods, excessive sugars, and saturated fats.

Step 2: Stay hydrated

Drinking enough water helps flush out toxins and supports liver function. Aim for at least eight glasses of water per day and avoid excessive consumption of alcohol and caffeinated beverages.

Step 3: Exercise regularly

Regular physical activity aids in blood circulation and helps metabolize AST more efficiently. Engage in moderate exercise for at least 150 minutes per week or vigorous exercise for 75 minutes per week.

Step 4: Maintain a healthy body weight

Being overweight or obese can negatively impact your liver function and contribute to elevated AST levels. Work towards achieving a healthy BMI through a combination of proper nutrition and regular physical activity.

Step 5: Limit exposure to environmental toxins

Toxins in your environment may tax the liver and increase AST levels. Limit exposure by using natural cleaning products, avoiding smoking, reducing pesticide use, and limiting contact with harmful chemicals.

Step 6: Consider taking supplements

Certain supplements like milk thistle extract, N-acetylcysteine (NAC), vitamin E, omega-3 fatty acids, or SAMe may support liver function and help lower AST levels. Consult with your healthcare professional before starting any new supplements.

Step 7: Manage stress

Chronic stress can wreak havoc on your physical and emotional health, including increased production of inflammatory markers that can affect your liver. Practice relaxation techniques like deep breathing, meditation, or yoga to manage daily stress.

Step 8: Maintain regular check-ups

Regular medical check-ups allow for early detection of potential liver issues. Ensure you discuss any concerns with your healthcare professional and monitor AST levels as recommended.

Conclusion:

Keeping your AST levels in check is essential for maintaining good health and preventing liver-related complications. By following these eight steps, you can effectively lower your AST levels and improve your overall well-being. Remember that lifestyle changes are crucial and consultation with a healthcare professional is necessary to address specific needs or concerns.
