Step 1: Select the right footwear

Choose football cleats that provide adequate support, grip, and a comfortable fit. This will enable you to plant your foot correctly and generate the necessary power for an accurate kick.

Step 2: Understand the rules

Study the basic rules for field goals in your league, as the distance, alignment, and other factors may vary. Develop a solid grasp of how points are awarded and any other related penalties or requirements.

Step 3: Find a holder or kicking tee

Have a trusted teammate hold the football steady for you during practice or invest in a quality kicking tee. This will help you refine your technique more effectively.

Step 4: Determine your starting position

Identify the ideal position to approach the ball — generally at an angle of about 30 degrees from behind and slightly to the side. This will maximize your accuracy and power while minimizing strain on your body.

Step 5: Establish your plant foot

Your plant foot is crucial for maintaining stability and generating power during a kick. Plant your non-kicking foot firmly beside the ball, pointing towards your target.

Step 6: Focus on the sweet spot

Aim for the lower third of the ball right above its middle, allowing you to maximize both height and distance. Concentrate on this point throughout your approach and follow-through.

Step 7: Accelerate toward the ball

Run forward toward the ball, maintaining consistent speed and balance. As you close in on it, shorten your stride slightly for improved control and stability.

Step 8: Swing through with proper technique

As you make contact with the ball, keep your ankle locked at a slight downward angle. Swing through with determination while keeping your head down.

Step 9: Follow through

Continue with an upward, forward motion after making contact with the ball. This helps ensure that you send it high and far while maintaining good control over its direction.

Step 10: Analyze your performance

After each kick, assess what went well and what needs improvement. Focus on fine-tuning your technique and building consistency.

Step 11: Stretch and exercise

Stretch your legs and core muscles before each field goal attempt or practice session. Along with proper training, regularly perform exercises to enhance strength, flexibility, and balance.

Step 12: Stay committed to practice

Consistent practice is essential for enhancing your field goal technique. Perform repetitions under various conditions (such as wind or rain) to build confidence in different scenarios. Keep honing your skills to become even better at kicking a field goal.

About Us

Since technology is not going anywhere and does more good than harm, adapting is the best course of action. That is where The Tech Edvocate comes in. We plan to cover the PreK-12 and Higher Education EdTech sectors and provide our readers with the latest news and opinion on the subject. From time to time, I will invite other voices to weigh in on important issues in EdTech. We hope to provide a well-rounded, multi-faceted look at the past, present, the future of EdTech in the US and internationally.

We started this journey back in June 2016, and we plan to continue it for many more years to come. I hope that you will join us in this discussion of the past, present and future of EdTech and lend your own insight to the issues that are discussed.
