How to Insert Headers and Footers in Microsoft Excel
Microsoft Excel is a spreadsheet software that is widely used to handle data, organize and analyze it. It provides many features that are useful in carrying out complex calculations and organizing data in a systematic manner. Using Excel to organize data has become a regular task in many professional and educational settings. Headers and footers can be helpful in doing this. Headers and footers are sections that appear at the top and bottom of every page of an Excel workbook, containing information related to the document. Headers and footers can be added or edited by following the simple steps outlined below.
Inserting Headers and Footers in Microsoft Excel:
Step 1: First, launch Microsoft Excel and open the workbook or worksheet that you want to insert a header/footer in.
Step 2: To add a header, click on the “Insert” tab located on the top menu bar.
Step 3: From the insert tab, go to the “Text” section and select “Header & Footer.” The header and footer tabs will appear above the worksheet, below the ribbon interface.
Step 4: Click on the “Header” tab to access the header section. Here, you can choose from the pre-defined header options that include Page Number, Date, Time, File Name, and Sheet Name.
Step 5: To add a custom header, click on the “Custom Header” button. This will bring up the “Header” dialog box, where you can add or edit the header section.
Step 6: Once you have added text to the header section, click on “OK” to apply the changes.
Step 7: To add a footer, click on the “Footer” tab, located beside the “Header” tab. This will bring up the footer section.
Step 8: Similar to the header section, you can choose from the predefined footer options or add a custom footer by clicking on the “Custom Footer” button located on the bottom right of the page. This will bring up the “Footer” dialog box, where you can add or edit the footer section.
Step 9: Once you have added text to the footer section, click on “OK” to apply the changes.
Step 10: Once you have completed editing the header and footer sections, click on “Close Header and Footer” to go back to the worksheet.
Step 11: To view the header and footer sections, you can click on “Page Layout” and select “Print Titles.” This will show the header and footer sections in the page layout view.
