How to Give a Presentation: 12 Steps

1. Know your audience: Before you begin creating your presentation, it’s important to understand who you’ll be presenting to. Tailor the content, tone, and style of your presentation to your target audience.

2. Set clear objectives: Define the goals of your presentation. What message do you want to convey? What actions should your audience take after listening to you?

3. Research and gather information: Collect all the data and facts relevant to your topic. Make sure it’s accurate and up-to-date so that you can build a solid foundation for your arguments.

4. Organize your content: Structure your presentation into a clear and logical sequence, using a beginning, middle, and end. Start by introducing the main points, develop and detail them in the body of your presentation, then wrap up with a conclusion that reinforces the main message.

5. Design engaging visuals: Use visuals to support your points rather than distract from them. Stick to simple yet engaging visuals, avoiding cluttered designs or too much text on each slide.

6. Practice makes perfect: Rehearse multiple times before giving the actual presentation. This will help identify any weak areas that need improvement while also building confidence in delivering the material.

7. Engage with the audience: Don’t just speak at them – ensure they’re actively engaged and participating in the discussion whenever possible. Ask questions, encourage input, and maintain eye contact with attendees.

8. Be mindful of body language: Stand with confidence, avoid nervous gestures, and use natural movement while speaking in order to project authority and engage with your audience.

9. Pace yourself: Speak slowly and clearly, with an emphasis on articulation and enunciation. This will ensure that everyone can understand you easily while giving you time to think about what you’re saying next.

10. Handle questions professionally: Anticipate possible questions or objections from your audience, and prepare clear, concise answers for them. When answering a question, address it directly and calmly, without being defensive or dismissive.

11. Summarize your main points: Before closing your presentation, reiterate the main points or takeaways to make sure they’re fresh in your audience’s mind.

12. End on a strong note: Finish your presentation with a compelling call-to-action or an inspiring quote to leave a lasting impression on your audience. Remember that the final thoughts you leave behind will often determine how well your presentation is remembered.

By following these 12 steps, you’ll be well on your way to giving an effective and engaging presentation that leaves a lasting impact on your audience.

About Us

Since technology is not going anywhere and does more good than harm, adapting is the best course of action. That is where The Tech Edvocate comes in. We plan to cover the PreK-12 and Higher Education EdTech sectors and provide our readers with the latest news and opinion on the subject. From time to time, I will invite other voices to weigh in on important issues in EdTech. We hope to provide a well-rounded, multi-faceted look at the past, present, the future of EdTech in the US and internationally.

We started this journey back in June 2016, and we plan to continue it for many more years to come. I hope that you will join us in this discussion of the past, present and future of EdTech and lend your own insight to the issues that are discussed.
