How to Get the Right Size Rental Truck for Your Move

Planning a move can be overwhelming, but choosing the right size rental truck doesn’t have to be a daunting task. The key is understanding your needs and having the right information to make an informed decision. In this article, we will discuss how you can determine the perfect size rental truck for your move.

1. Assess Your Belongings

Start by taking inventory of everything you plan to move and categorize them by size – small, medium, large, or oversized. Consider items such as furniture, appliances, clothing, and miscellaneous items like lamps or decorations.

2. Estimate required space

As a rule of thumb, each room in your home typically requires about 150 cubic feet of truck space. To estimate the total space you need, add up the number of rooms in your current home and multiply by 150 cubic feet.

3. Choose the Right Truck Size

Now that you have an idea of how much space you might need, it’s time to choose a truck size that fits your requirements:

a) 10-foot trucks work best for studio apartments or small one-bedroom moves.

b) 14-foot trucks are suitable for one to two-bedroom apartments or small houses.

c) 17-foot trucks are ideal for two to three-bedroom homes.

d) 20-foot trucks work well for three to four-bedroom homes.

e) 26-foot trucks cater to four or more bedroom homes.

4. Take Additional Factors into Consideration

The distance of your move will also play a significant role in determining the right size rental truck. If you’re moving long distances, it’s better to rent a slightly bigger truck to avoid having to make multiple trips.

5. Seek Professional Advice

When in doubt, don’t hesitate to ask for professional assistance from the rental company’s representatives. Describe your moving situation, and they will help you determine the most suitable truck size for your needs.

In conclusion, choosing the right size rental truck is essential to ensure a smooth and hassle-free move. Assessing your belongings, estimating the required space, and seeking professional advice will guide you towards making the correct decision. Happy moving!
